For those reading this thread, it isn't like the older gear is inherently not prone to issues... you can find plenty of threads on issues with older gear as well.
* Older gear, especially 80's and some 90's era is easier to work on just because components are easier
* New gear is inherently harder to work on because everything is so dang small
* Older gear is requiring boutique shops to get you replacement gear or to modernize
* New gear is easier to get replacement parts for
My bigger concern is that Akai support just seems to be MIA... which is making it harder/more expensive to get this stuff fixed.
But the question is, What is wrong with the unit? Most the errors seems to be lagging, freezing, not rebooting type errors. Which on the surface point at the SOC, which doesn't surprise me considering they're using old Chrome book SOC's.
Also in the video, his distortions issue is because he's put effects on every pad, instead of the program or main output. This is user error and comes from not actually using the machine to create. As far as the sound comparison, they're very close. He needs to roll off the highs and bump the low end on the MPC LIVE to get closer to the sonic signature.
