Band kontext: Grand Pause in live setup

Hi everyone
Have been a MPC newbie not so long ago and might have been a little bit blue-eyed to expect to do a very simple manoeuvre with my MPC One - but it doesn't seem to be possible. Maybe someone has a clue?
Live setup. I start with Sequence 1 from scratch, record drums. Sequence 1 is playing, I switch to Sequence 2, which is 4 empty bars.
While rest of Sequence 1 is being played, I pick up an instrument. When Sequence 2 starts, I play a unison lick with my bandmate into those empty 4 bars (no recording, just playing). Klick in the ear, don't worry. Great. Now I would like Sequence 1 to start again automatically. That fails.
In song mode, I cannot record. In Change sequence I can't do it, because I have no hands free and don't find a way to set it to automatic.
What am I missing?

I would just copy sequence 1 to a new sequence and add 4 empty bars.

Thanks 64, that was my first thought. It just means, that I have to copy and edit sequences on the spot. I was hoping that I could automat that But hey - it works.

You can add those empty bars while the sequence is playing if that helps?
