Splice FLAC Samples + Controller Mode

I'm using a AKAI MPC Live II and I'm having a bit of trouble working with Splice samples that were directly downloaded to the device via the integrated Splice sync support in the settings menu.

I've downloaded all of my samples and they show up fine in the directory and they play just fine when I'm in standalone mode, however when I am in controller mode and I start browsing the Splice folder none of the sounds will audition and play. When I try to add the sample to my project, it doesn't even show up. This only happens when in controller mode. Does anyone know why this is?

Some other details: I have a 1TB SSD installed as an additional drive in the device and that is the drive that I am using to sync Splice files to as well. Also if I download the samples via my desktop app (they come down as WAVES) and then move them to the drive, it works fine. But it's less than ideal because I lose the automatic sync and also the nice folder structure that the MPC/Splice sync creates.

I've found a bit of wonkiness in Splice FLAC files using the auto-sync option on the MPC. Often in standalone, I'd find some of the files just wouldn't play back. But if I copy that same folder of WAV files onto my 1 TB SSD that I've got installed in my MPC Live 2, all of the files playback fine. So I'm convinced it's an issue with the MPC synchronizing with the Splice server and Splice app when it converts everything to FLAC. That said, you don't lose any folder structure if you just copy the entire PC Splice folder contents onto that built-in 1TB SSD - it just appears alphabetically. Well.. except for by key, tag, bpm, etc - yeah that sucks.

As for controller mode, are you navigating (via your browser) to the Splice folder location on your computer, or on your built-in 1 TB SSD that should show up as a mounted drive? When the MPC is in Controller Mode, it loses the ability to read FLAC files natively via the browser when accessing its own mounted drive. Because the Splice app automatically converts to FLAC when you sync via your Live, that's obviously a problem.

So I changed my folder in the Splice account link settings to be inside of the 1TB drive I installed rather than it's own internal storage. When I connect in controller mode I see the folder, see all the files, but none of them play or can be added to a project. If I go into standalone mode, those same files work just fine.

Seems like it might just be some weird limitation of the Live II and working in controller mode. I've noticed a couple other weird things you wouldn't expect as well. You'd really think that they'd want to make it a seamless process to work either standalone or in controller mode to get the best of both worlds, but it's almost like they consider them two completely different devices which is weird in my opinion.

The only thing I can think of is that when you're in Controller Mode, it's relying on the MPC Software to do all of the work. Obviously there's an issue with the FLAC player in the desktop MPC Software, else the previews should playback just fine - just like they do if they're *.WAV files in Controller Mode on your internal 1TB SSD. I encourage you to report this as a bug - maybe they'll get around to fixing it someday if enough users complain.
