MPC X freezes in a controller mode

Hi everyone!

I have MPC X which I use for live performances in a controller mode. Recently it started to freeze constantly once I open my DAWs (MPC and GarageBand). At first I thought the issue was a laptop, however, the CPU is barely used and both DAWs function properly. It’s the MPC hardware that freezes every 5-10 seconds (turns grey and have “waiting dots” animation).

Any clues or ideas what could be the case and how to resolve it? Need the help badly.

The controller is losing connection from the computer. It could be a million reasons. Maybe the cable. Maybe a port. Maybe a an issue with your USB bus. Maybe the MPC controller driver. The MPC controller mode reliability has been awful since inception.. The Rens /Touch/Studio worked fine so I don't understand why the Mpc2 software has such struggles. I have never heard of one successful story of Akai customer service solving a users controller mode issue. There are apparently many users who have no issues with it. I m thinking it's a narrow band of hardware that the MPC driver plays nice with. But who the hell knows because Akai has never publicly addressed or acknowledged this issue and are just leaving users to shotgun their own solutions to fix this ridiculously annoying issue.

Thank you for the fast reply. It helped, actually. All the usb-s and output were plugged into a laptop instead of MPC and it never froze again.

To anyone, who might be facing the issue I’d recommend plugging in as little devices to MPC as possible.

For a future reference for those who consider buying and MPC X in the future, my personal piece of advise based on my experience would be DON’T DO IT! Creating an MPC X was a great idea on paper only. In the real life the technology is way too far from what it was supposed to be. Tons of bugs and struggles comes down with every MPC X for sure. Ridiculously enough, that’s the most expensive gear I ever had too! Never ever in my life any instrument caused so many troubles. By the way, the support team never supports or helps! They simply never reply actually. The only thing that works is this forum with nice community. Thank you folks for being kind and helpful. Akai, I’m very disappointed

Yes, in my setup I used MPC X as a usb hub for an unpowered midi keyboard.

Regarding what exactly was plugged in.
It’s
1) a guitar -> front input 1 port
2) a mic -> rear input 2 port
3) a midi keyboard -> USB port
4) a laptop USB cable -> USB 3.0 port
4) a stereo output port

Initially the plan was to use MPC X as a source for all input and output signals. Unfortunately, it didn’t work so a midi keyboard and a stereo output were plugged into the laptop instead. So basically now all input signals come from MPC X while the output goes out of the laptop. Which makes very little sense to me sonically wise. Since MPC should be such a great tool to process the sound. But no. In original setup it’s freezing regularly

If you have any insight, please let me know. Still looking forward to having a better alternative.
