Im no stranger to forums so before i posted this i did take time to search the topic.

I deleted the demo content out my MPC Live 2 and paid for it. now i cant load my recent projects, templates. So I reached out to akai 4 time and only got one response. here's what they said

Thank you for reaching out to us. I appreciate the opportunity to assist you!

I have included some information below that I think will be helpful:

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble! You can reinstall the factory content using an autorun folder. Download the folder and follow the provided instructions.

Akai MPC Content Download:

Akai MPC Content Reinstall:

1. Download the .zip file.

2. Unzip the downloaded file.

3. Copy the contents onto either a USB stick, or an SD card (exFAT format, at least 16GB capacity), and make sure this content is placed in the root directory of the removable device - do NOT place the content inside a folder on the removable drive.

4. Turn on MPC and wait until the Demo selection screen pops up.

5. Plug in the prepared USB stick or SD card.

6. A popup will appear asking if you want to download the contents. Press “YES”.

7. The MPC will reboot to a black screen and will start importing the content. DO NOT POWER OFF UNIT.

8. Unit will reboot after it has completed the import, and the content will be be available thereafter as normal.

The problem is the link to download dont work and i dont get a response back. I been sending emails for about a month now.

Have you tried calling them?

Have you registered your mpc? I literally just posted a rant about this yesterday lol. It's all on the akaipro.com website if you just register your mpc. They're ignoring you because its not a them problem. Once you register the unit you have access to a pile of expansions, pc software and recovery files.

Missing the demo content isnt a big deal, you will lose some sounds not included in your internal expansions but not many. The demo projects are trash anyways. I deleted mine as well, purposely after scaping the kits and keygroups.

Losing the recent projects tab does suck though!

When you use the link provided by Akai it restores the internal back to how it was from the factory. The links from his account would just give him back access to his expansions.

You still would have to install it on your PC, then export it from the software to your LIVE/FORCE/ONE. That device will read the expansion like it's a user installed one and not one from the factory.

Did anyone ever get this file(s)? I can't get the thing to open with "Demo/Template/Recent" it says the demos are not installed. recent and templates are important parts of my workflow.

I can't get a response from Akai support. I've tried everything. Weeks worth of unanswered support tickets. Tried calling them. Searched in vain for the "chat with support" button.

There was someone on Reddit who had the file to share, but they don't anymore (probably because people kept hitting them up for it)

Can anyone help?

The OP ghosted this forum a long time ago. But I don't think there's any solution other than getting in contact with Akai (assuming your MPC is still under warranty). If it's not under warranty, I'm afraid you're SOL unless you can find someone with a working restoration file.

I also need this file. I deleted by mistake the content of internal drive. Now I don't have that dialog screen which asks you to choose between demos, projects, templates or recents, that is very handy for beginners, like me. If somebody has this image for install, please upload it for download and let us know. The machine is great, but technical support disappoints. I'm waiting for days with 4 tickets, tried to call and no response. It's the last product of Akai I buy, if they really show they don't care about customers solutions, that could be so easy to solve.

"... someone with a working restoration file." That seems to be the route... Why AKAI is not giving those "restore to original"-files are not commonly available will stay an AKAI secret.
If somebody is looking for source files - easy done - even me, not being a whizz-kid (somebody here to remember this term ;-) , pulling down the data is no big job. So, company secrets cannot be the reason...
It is just like the "download file links" for updates, nothing seems to be following any logical rule...everybody is doing what they think is right. Missing leadership, I guess.

Hi! I have this same problem, and I got the autorun file from Akai. However, the autorun doesn't work (it doesn't autorun, tried with all the possible combinations for file system).

I can SSH into the MPC, and I can restore it manually; I had no success till now because placing the Demo content in the internal memory root doesn't seem to work. Could anyone please, tell me where the "Demos" folder must be placed?

Thanks in advance.

The demos folder is in /media/acts-content/expansions/
The other folder in there in my case is called Mpc one.

Any chance you could share the autorun , you never know when you might need it :-D

Amazing, that did it! The path is Media/acvs-content/Expansions.

Thanks a lot, Wul!

Unfortunately, as seen in other posts, it's not allowed to share that file. However, if anyone needs It, Just PM me.

Akai representative, this is, of course, a joke. I'd never share it. As a matter of fact, I deleted it forever.

If someone else suffers from this silly nightmare, like me, I'll share some advice.

First, I think this is a software design flaw; I don't understand why they are exposing files for deletion that are required for the config screen, even though there is a reserved partition in the internal memory which is not accessible from the browser. Why don't you put these just there? Restoring these files can be a mission for a musician.

Also, the autoload file that Akai provides doesn't work in many cases, as seen in this forum. My suspicion is that there is a checksum test to prevent altering the content, but the file is sent zipped. Akai doesn't have a way to make a bulletproof checksum. I didn't waste much time figuring this out, though.

So, this is what I did, proceed at your own risk, and don't blame me if you brick your unit (that probably will never happen but just in case):

    - Get the Demos folder; this is into the autoload file that Akai provides under the autoload/data directory. It's possible that it could work with the Demos that you can download from your user area where you registered your MPC, but I didn't try. Copy this folder to a USB and connect it to the MPC.

    - Install the MPC-Live Explore firmware https://github.com/TheKikGen/MPC-LiveXplore. This just adds SSH functionality to your MPC. It can be installed by USB update.

    - Connect your MPC to your network and go to preferences, network to see what IP is assigned.

    - Open a terminal window on your computer and write ssh root@your_MPC_ip. You'll log in to your MPC with admin permissions; proceed with care.

    - Write ls /media and check for the name of the USB drive you connected previously.

    - Write scp /media/the_name_of_your_USB_drive/Demos /media/acvs-content/Expansions/ Please, note that all you write here is case sensitive. This copies the folder; if you are asked to overwrite, say yes.

    - After this operation ends, you are done. You should not see the not installed for the templates anymore. Type exit in your computer console and reset your MPC preferences.

    - Install the latest official firmware again.

I hope this helps. It was a real PITA for me until I realized, thanks to @wul, how the file structure works.

Weird sounds like they messed up the Live 2's restore files for sure. I've run this on my OG Live before. Unzipped the image, threw it on the same USB stick I use to update it. The MPC immediately booted right off the USB drive when I powered it up and started the whole restoration without any interaction from me.

Mister Monotremata if you still a copy of the restore file of the OG Live 1 , I'll be very interested, I deleted some of the Clips Expansion and Demo files before understanding they was located on the internal drive ( it was my rookie time on mpc live, 2 years ago),...
I don't know if it's the case of my SD card ejecting problem, but I'll be happy to give it a try, if you still have i, don't hesitate to PM me. Thanks all for this really intersting thread.

Hey people, I rarely add here but... I'm working with Akai customer support on this problem with my MPC Live 1 and lucked into a great support person! He is actively helping me get the issue escalated to a more expert specialist. My jaw hit the floor when he wrote back to me explaining clear next steps and a timeline to expect. I'll keep you posted on what I learn
