Quick access to control an effect on an audio track?

I've got a drum machine running into an audio track with a filter on it. Easy enough.
What I want to do is assign one of my Q-Knobs to control the frequency parameter of the filter so that I can sweep it during performance. Can I edit my MIDI controls so that one of my Q-Knobs just controls that filter??
If so, could I also edit the rate at which it sweeps the filter? (Maybe I can edit that value of each knob turn so that it happens faster? I want to sweep it more quickly than it currently moves)
