Just got the MPC One.

Im new here.
Im a former 2KXl, 1000 and 4000 user who kinda went the software route and has been on Ableton since.

With these new mpc's I figured why not give the One a try and see if It does something for my creativity.
I have just started messing around with it, and I have some thoughts on I should just go for the live 2 instead. My concern is the quality. The first thing I noticed is the headphone jack. It feels flimsy and can be pushed In with no effort. Second thing is the build quality in general. Coming from the old Mp's, this thing just fels cheaply built compared. I just feel that it won't withstand the test of time like old ones.

I have never tried or seen the live 2 in person, and my question for those who have it is how do you feel about the quality How's the headphone jack? Does the price upgrade match the quality?

I'm not convinced there's any noticeable build quality difference between any of these new MPCs. TBH, they're solid enough but never going to be 'tanks' like the classic MPCs. I wouldn't buy a Live 2 purely because you think you'll be getting better build quality, it's definitely not worth nearly double the price of a One IMO. But it does of course have lots of other advantages.

I'm still using a 4 year old Live, still working fine, not had any problems with pad sensors or buttons failing or screen dimming like I did on the older 'classic' MPCs. Eventually they'll come out with a new generation of hardware and, inevitably, these current units eventually won't have the necessary grunt to run the latest firmware releases (assuming Akai keep on adding all the feature requests), so you'll probably be forced to buy newer hardware whether you like it or not.

I've had the same Live (OG) since release. Its never gone more than a week or 2 not being used. I travel with it weekly, take it everywhere honestly. Never had any major issues. The paint coating starts to peel off and I replaced the data dial but besides that have had no issues

Im sure the One his made with the same parts and quality would be equal. I'd get the One myself if I didn't value the battery on Live so much

If your headphone jack is loose then take it back.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the responce. The One is really enough for my needs and if there is no significant difference in the build there is no reason to switch.

I've been playing with it non stop today and i gotta say, im in love with this thing.
Laying on the couch and making beats.

It's a dream come true, not having to be in a dedicated room sitting at the desk. Im gonna keep it and if the headphone jack gets wacky i'll just use the waranty.

Until then, i'll be banging out tunes.

Fun little tip if you're using your MPC on your lap. the little screw with the loop (on the back side) is for your power cable. If you stick the loop around the power cable and then loop it back to the device and screw it in, it will save you from delaminating the barrel jack from the mpc's power supply if it gets yanked. Though it wont stop you from applying pressure to the barrel jack and snapping it off the power supply that way, be careful with your new friend!

Update.

I ended up switching to the live 2, and im happy i did. Not only for the added features, but everything about it feels more well built, from the headphone jack to the rubbery plastic cover just like the on they used on the push.

And i find the battery and speakers to be great tbh. To be able to be away from the music room and just turn it on whenever does a lot.
