MPC X Midi with Komplete Kontrol S49

Hi folks, hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction

I have a MPC X and am hoping to use my Komplete Kontrol s49 to trigger notes on the MPC X (standalone). I have the KKS49 connected to the MPC X directly via a MIDI cable (out on keyboard to in on MPC X). I cant see the keyboard anywhere on the MPC X (have seen videos showing MIDI menu and MIDI learn function), its not as if I want to configure all the buttons on the keyboard, I just want the notes so pretty basic stuff - even pressing the keys on the keyboard dont register with the MPC X (no lights when I press the keyboard keys). I have unplugged the USB cable on my KKS49 so that it doesnt 'think' it should be connected to my PC so it should only be seeing the MIDI connection.

I have a small LPK wireless keyboard which works fine over bluetooth with the X, but the keys on the S49 are obviously better and was hoping to use this. Any ideas would be appreciated - thanks.

Wrong midi port on accident? interference of sorts on its channel? damaged cable? half plugged cable? eliminate the little stuff first.

This may sound like an obvious question but why not just hook it up with the usb cable, everything I've connected via usb works just fine..

Thanks for the reply guys, Ultros yep i just double checked, definately have the cable coming from the MIDI out of the keyboard into the MIDI in 1, also tried MIDI 2. The cable is brand new as I purchased for this reason, I guess it could be faulty, will need to buy another cable to test that.

Symianbeatz, I currently use the s49 with my PC (which I like to keep as separate as possible when using the MPC standalone), to avoid having to constantly unplug and replug the USB between MPC and PC (from the keyboard) could I plug the s49 into a USB hub which is also connected to both the MPC and the PC, and would they both work (even the MPC with keyboard if the PC is turned off?) Admittedly I get a little confused about how USB hubs work ie can you use them to connect things together which dont need to be connected via a PC?

Wierd thing, but its started working, not sure why but all ive done is to recheck the cabling as suggested by Ultros (which didnt seem to make an immediate difference however i did reboot the keyboard after this)- the notes are now triggered by the S49, however only when I remove the USB lead from the keyboard which goes to my PC. To me this feels like the keyboard's behaviour as though it thinks it should not be sending midi data via midi cable if it detects a connection to my pc, and on the S49 as soon as I connect the USB lead to the PC the screen changes on it to say 'Template 1'. I know there is a controller editor which can be used to configure MIDI behaviour of NI devices, but wierdly my kayboard isnt on the list.

Naw usb hubs wont let you do host to host or slave to slave. its a host / client thing. In order to use a usb hub, it needs to be plugged into a computer, tablet, phone or your mpc (they have what is called a usb host controller).

USB hubs dont work in a stand-alone fasion where they go between two devices with host controllers. So long story short usb midi (slave) devices > usb hub > pc.

All it does is allow you to use multiple devices in whatever its plugged into, and has its own 5v power brick so it can supply all the devices without it browning out your usb controller on the "host".

The usb message routing is actually done by the host's "kernel".
