I wouldnt "recommend" these but i also wouldnt condemn them either. I have 4 sets of numark hf-125s, three of the new pair one of the old that came with my decks. $15 on amazon but they kinda roll off the highs though (which i dont mind for production). Ive had good sets and bad sets and tbh i'm content with the $15 pairs.

I always 2-3 headphones and 2 systems around.
When a beat sounds good on 2/3 or 3/5, then you know you have arrived.

whatever you do, make sure you have some open ears to compare your sound against.

If you're serious about mixing and want to train your ear you need pro headphones that are balanced in the highs mids and lows.
You want them to be as flat as possible akso. Open back is best for mixing. You should get the Sennheiser 600 HDs!!! Plus they very comfortable.
I have the ATH-M50X, they are closed back, they concentrate mostly on the lows. They take away from the true highs.

I have a great pair of OnAudio to reference on anything , like my cell.

You need balance , and flatness when dealing with headphones. And Ohms also, you may need a good headphone amp to make them really shine.

Peace :smoker:

"Open-back headphones don't create a seal over your ears. Instead, they let sound leak out. As you might expect, the result is that music sounds less “muffled” and more “clear.” Additionally, open-backed headphones provide a better sense of dynamics and stereo imaging than closed-back headphones."

Beyer DT990 250Ohms here too. They're a little harsh at first but once you break em in and get used to them, I love working on them. The bass is a little hyped, but you can actually hear subs in there, so I wouldn't trust it 100% for a mix, but they're good enough to get you pretty close. They are great for listening to the balance of the tracks too. They'll let you know if something is sticking out too much right away. The only thing about them that sucks is the cable isn't replaceable, but with Beyer's you have to jump up to like the $1500 range before you get one of their models with a replaceable cable. Go figure my 'cheap' $70 AKG 240s have a removable cable.

I use the akg 712pro's with a aftermarket handmade heavy copper cable and I'm very happy with them. I grew up learning sound on nice headphones because my dad was a audio engineer for johnny cash so i learned what a flatter response sounds like, but i also love the akg sound so I'm biased. The $500 range beher cans are supposed to be good too idk.

My ATH-M50 are about 13 years old now still going strong, although the head band black faux leather has peeled off, leaving a kinda nice grey faux suede type fabric. But I do fancy the DT990, when I tried them they were comfy as, and being opened back I think would feel nicer over longer listening. Especially in the hot country I live in
