I’m really enjoying the Mpc Live 2. I am basically 90% finished with getting my live rig set up.
I’m using a Tascam Model as my interface
LPD 8 #1 - Mute and Control Volume of Audio Tracks
LPD 8 #2 - Mute and Control Volume of Drum/Midi Tracks
APC Mini - Solo/Mute and Control Volume of individual drum samples.
McMillen Softstep 2 - MMC messages for Start/Stop/Record. Also Program Change messages for Sequences.
Everything is working seamlessly but the
one thing I would love to see implemented at some point in time would be the ability to trigger a new audio record loop in a previous bar during playback.
For example
Drums are looping, let’s call it a simple 4 bar loop. Now I would like to lay down a guitar chord progression on the fly.
Instead of timing the record enable right on bar 1 of the phrase. I can hit record enable at any point in the previous bar cue the recording for the up coming bar.
Right now I run into 2 issues.
Issue 1 - If I trigger early, it goes into Overdub mode which doesn’t track anything for audio tracks.
Issue 2 - If I am late triggering record, then it won’t capture the full performance and I will have discrepancies with the loop on playback. (IE incomplete loop)
I feel this could be programmed as follows
MMC message for Overdub would be a Cue record for Audio tracks
MMC message for Rec can stay the same as it is now.
Sorry for the long winded post but I’m super stoked on my recording setup with my Live 2, so if this feature was implemented it would literally be the perfect standalone rig for myself, and I’m sure loads of other live performers.
