Hi guys,

A few weeks ago, my MPC X started to randomly shut down every few minutes.
To make it short, I tried with my MPC One's power supply, which is different but has the same specs, and no more shutdowns.
I then tested the power supplies, the one from the MPC One outputs 19v as it should, but the X's one outputs 19.5v.
So I contacted Thomann where I bought the X last April, they ordered a new one and I received it today, tested it and… it outputs 19.68v… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Is my MPC X too picky and those voltage differences are within specs?
Have you ever tested yours or could you do it?
I tested other gears' power supplies and some have the same voltage difference.
I don't want to take the risk to fry the MPC X, I really don't have the time.

For the story, when I got my MPC One, it burned on the first day when I plugged a USB hub. 8-/
It's been replaced but it took a loooong time due to the pandemic.

I would expect this kind of behavior more from off spec current than off spec voltage. Furthermore, how did you test the voltage? If you do this without load, so with the mpc disconnected, then those readings might be different than under load.
Did you also try to power the one with the mpc x power supply? If that's also not working most likely the power supply is busted and supplying not enough current.

And in general:
Usually higher voltages are not too much of an issue, but the current should be as specified

I agree with the previous answer - the unloaded voltage is much less important than how it behaves under load. The current rating of the power supply specifies how much current it should be able to supply without a significant voltage drop or cutting out.

When it shuts down, do the Pad LEDs and Q-Link screens go off first? They will blank out if the input voltage ever drops below about 15v

Thank you both.

I guess I've been traumatized by my MPC One burning during a worldwide pandemic and staying 3 months with no jobs and no MPC. ;)

I tried the new PS with the X and it worked fine for hours.

To be honest, I don't remember exactly how it shut down, only that it was not nice, not just like you pulled the plug. I did not tried the X's PS long enough with the One, I decided to "share" the PS between the two and take it with me (the MPCs are not at the same place) while waiting for the new one.

P.S. They really use whatever PS they can source. I've seen 5 PS in less than 2 years. Not two were the same and they use 3 different types of chords.
