Yes, can record internally by midi sends but you cant send a track through the arp. It's either the pads or external midi that goes through the arp. In order to get a track already recorded to use the arp you have to send the midi out through a cable and then back into the midi in port of the MPC. Then that midi will get processed by the Arp and you can record. But there is a small noticeable delay and it will be perfectly off grid so you'll just have to select all notes and nudge it back to start to align.

You dont need an external controller just one midi cable in to out. And make sure your track settings are not causing a midi loop. Although aftertouch and pad velocity seems to get stuck in a midi loop anyway note on note off duration works fine. I only recommend doing the midi cable looping when you are specifically wanting to route through the arp. Does seem a bit silly that a track cant use the arp internally though.

This method works for me. Thankyou !
For anyone else curious, this is what I did.
Connect midi in to midi out cable.
Input chords on the grid or play into track.
Select midi on that track.
Choose another track then select a plugin.
Select note repeat then arpeggiator. Adjust settings as required.
Go to midi channels page and select mpc on midi track you have input chords.
Go back to plugin track and select the grid piano roll.
Hit record and watch the notes being input by the arp.
Stop record.
Mute the midi track.
Then playback what has been recorded, edit on grid etc.
The arp now follows your chords

Thats dope! Glad it worked out for you. Are you getting a very noticeable drift off grid on record? And is your pad velocity and aftertouch getting stuck at max? You can see the velocity and after touch in the hardware menu. Im wondering how much of what if I'm getting is the factory MPC or my particular unit or cables. Seems a bit excessive drift for Just coming in going out of the box with a 2 inch midi cable.
