.xpj extractor?

Hi,

Is there a way to extract programs out of a .xpj (or whatever a project file is named) easily without firing up my MPC or the software? I was under the impression I could just open them in my force but that's not the case lol.

The .xpj format on new mpc's is a kind of xml file.

This file contains the path of the programs,tracks and other information.

If you see in the same folder as the file project is, there is a folder called:

'Name of project [Project Data]

Inside this folder you will see:

-The sequences in .sxq format.
-The samples in wav maybe if you use other format as well.
-The programs .xpm format.

I don't know which format uses Force, but i guess the programs will be compatible.

The Force doesn’t save programs like the MPC when saving a project. But you can export the programs to MPC format and import them to MPC or Force.

What about the sequences in the folder Project Data? Can you open these on the force or do you need to export the tracks as patterns or something.

I'm considering switching from MPC Live mk1 to the Force. And would like to be still able to open
projects that I never finished on the MPC and harvest them for parts.

If you have an MPC Project, you can enter the ProjectData folder to load any programs (XPM) and individual WAV files. To view the projectData folder in the Force browser, select the settings icon and make sure Hide ProjectData folders is unchecked.

Sequence files cannot be loaded into the Force. You'll have to export the individual tracks from your MPC as MIDI or patterns and import them into clips.

If you have a Force project to load into the MPC, you'll find that the ProjectData folder does not contain any XPM files,, usually just WAV files, program data seems to be merged into the XPJ file. So you'll have to save the XPM files separately in the Force.

What Tutor said is true, there is no simpel 'load .xpj' sollution. It will take some extra effort to do it. I've been doing the same now that I've switched from MPC firmware to Hakai firmware.

It will take some work especially if your like me and have lot of automation lanes in your tracks. I export the tracks as patterns and import those and the programs into the Force mode. But you will have to the rest like automation maually.

Someone else mentioned that you can export/save you entire project as Ableton Live project (.ALS). and import that into the Force but I had no luck with it.

This works as advertised.

I wonder if this is an oversight on Akai’s part or is done this way intentionally.

I’ve migrated some projects over to Hakai Force and I’ve had the best luck doing this

Create a “Song” on the MPC (or software) where it includes each sequence, one after another without repeats.
Convert the song to a single sequence
Export the sequence as an Ableton file where each track is a MIDI instrument
Also export any Return track or Master track effect racks so you can load them into Force.
Load the .als file in Force
You need to reload each track’s program since each track will only be a midi track. To do this, highlight the track header, then go to Browse and find the program file in the associated MPC projects [project data] folder and load it. Then repeat this for each track
Now go to the master & return tracks. Select the header for the track and then browse for the effect rack presets you save in the MPC
Now all the mixing stuff is done, go into the clip matrix. Basically there is one clip which contains all the midi data for the multiple sequences you had, so you need to copy each clip and select the start & stop times to align that clip with the section of song you want to play. For instance, clip 1 set start & stop to bar 1 and 4. Clip 2 set it for 5&8 and so on.
