I have a local sale pop up for a pretty fair priced MPC Live. I already own one however! I'm curious if anyone else has used 2 simultaneously, and what you find the advantages are?

In theory, this would circumvent the issue of running a set from 1 project + several sequences (ram and lack of disk streaming limitations would make this tough), allowing for bouncing back and forth loading projects. Are there other unique ways of interconnecting 2?

I used to perform with heaps of analog gear, 2 novation circuits sending midi, and an octatrack to mix it all together with FX. Ultimately, the setup was a headache, and so many moving parts killed the joy of live performance. So I'm more inclined to embrace minimalism these days.

It certainly would solve loading between projects during a live performance, for sure. You will also have double the amount of standalone plugins available (16!) and you can sync them wirelessly via Ableton Link (assuming they're on the same WiFi). Or, if they're both Live II, you can sync them via the Link NIC port on the back via Ethernet cable. I mean, aside from that, I can't think of a real-world use that I would personally find useful. YMMV...

Many of the greats [DRE, jimmy jam] had 2 of their favorite machine. It allows you to get past a lot of hardware limitations . . . . . . it also insures you against robbery if you keep them separate.

If the MPC LIVE is the center of your setup, cop it.
If you also use ableton/LOGIC, pass

True words guys. One of the best things about the MPC stuff is how insanely common they are on the used market. I could probably find one in any major city. I guess that's also a reminder to back up my SD card to a cloud or something.

Check out Onra. He performs live with 2 MPC 1000s and a Korg Kaoss Pad. Dope Hip-Hop beats.

Excellent! That's the exact video I was referring to! I agree about the Kaoss Pad, I like how he uses it to transition between songs. I like the idea of using an Octatrack instead tho, slightly more interesting and different flexibility. I don't know how he's got everything connected, the Kaoss Pad only has on pair of RCA in so it requires an extra mixer and complicates the setup.

The other thing that boggles my mind about this set is how many songs he was able to fit on each MPC, dude must have crazy big Compact Flash cards!

Ideally, I want to perfrom similar to this using two MPC Live MK1s and an Octatrack to switch between songs and for extra FX/Transitions. I'm still hesitant to pull the trigger on the Octatrack, it's twice as much as an MPC Live and I haven't found many on the used market. Plus it's a beats to learn from what I hear. I'm interested to see what performance method you come up with for 2 MPCs.
