Support and discussion for all of Akai’s modern standalone MPCs including the MPC X / X SE, MPC Live 1, 2 & 3, MPC One / One+, MPC Key 37/61.

I need a (my ideal would be old school standalone) sampler for creating kits and chopping the occasional loops under the hood.
I will be sequencing it using either my Squarp Pyramid or my Cirklon but the trouble I suspect I will have is that these 'iPad in a control box' samplers like Maschine+ (i've already tested it, its no good to me) and the new MPCs have awful unusable latency when triggered from external sequencers.

Should I even bother looking at the MPC one or should I just wait for the Roland SP404 mkii to come out. That does look like it will trigger properly and tight triggering is more important to me than the extra features of the MPC.
It's really annoying that Akai (or anybody for that matter) don't make well featured rack samplers any more.

I think i saw some people having trouble having MPC as a MIDI slave, but from what i understand you want a box that would just play samples triggered from MIDI generated from external source.

IMO it should work without any issue or non-standard latency if all needed samples are in a program in a selected track.
What i am not sure ATM is MIDI channel support - so if you could assign selected MIDI channel to selected tracks in MPC and use it as multi timbral instrument playing up to 16 separate programs. I can look into it, but i most likely won't be able to do it today.

I have a Cirklon and an Pyramid hardware sequencers. They are far more creative ways to sequence tracks than the awful way of doing it on the MPC (I bought an MPC Live when they came out and hated it).

I'm not looking for an all in one box like the MPC but there are no old school samplers on the market any more that don't have a sequencer and pads attached to it. Because its not design with being triggered externally I mind they dont trigger quickly.

Is there a buffer setting in the MPC OS? This is probably why you can't get it the trigger speed low like a proper hardware sampler.

Here. It is/was clearly a problem with MPC Live. I was wondering if the issue is the same with MPC One.

I also owned a Maschine+ just before I bought my Cirklon and trying to get it to trigger like a real hardware instrument was impossible. Impossible to use for drums as it lags behind the beat. You can't have drums triggering late.

Happy to try out your particular requirement later. Would triggering a 120BPM drum track from Reaper alongside a 120BPM melody on the MPC One be a sufficient test? Do you need me to get Reaper be the master clock and send clock to the MPC?

The latency doesn't come from the MPC, it comes from audio buffering on your computer. There is absolutely no perceptible latency when sequencing hardware synthesizers via the MPC MIDI out. So don't blame the MPC because general purpose computers can't handle audio without perceptible latency.

However there might BE some synchronization issues when trying to synchronize the clock of the MPC with an external sequencer's clock.
