I've asked this on Reddit but no joy so far:

So I have a pad played on an Argon8. Takes up 4 bars but the fade out at the end extends it out to 6 bars. I've sampled it (using up 6 bars) in MPC.

My song is made up of 4 bar parts. This synth pad section is also 4 bars, but if I set the sequence with this (now sampled) pad to 4 bars then at the end of the 4th bar it will cut off abruptly, even though the actual sample length is sufficient to cover 6 bars. If I set the sequence to cover 6 bars then it plays correctly but now this part is 2 bars too long to fit in with the other tracks.

I guess what I'm asking is is there a way to have the sequence set to 4 bars but not cut off the sample at the end of the 4 bar sequence, but to let it continue to play (like it did when it was driving the synth originally over midi)? In program Edit the sample is set to polyphonic.

You can try adjusting the Tail Length of the Sample in the Program Edit Screen. Or adjust the Release of the Sample in the Amp Envelope(but you would have to change the Parameter to Note On to get Release control)

Thanks but this is not an issue with the sample. It's an issue with how the MPC treats the playing of that sample. The sample (with the fadeout) occupies 6 bars and if I play it in a 6 bar sequence it plays for 6 bars. I mean maybe this is just a limitation I have to work around.

EDIT: I'd made so many mistakes it's hard to know where to begin. I will write them here for future reference once I'm sure I've solved it though.

EDIT2:
So when I'd recorded my midi to the audio track, that audio track was left in that track. That is what was playing, not the Drum Pad. After deleting the audio track I got no audio out. This is because the midi note I'd entered in the editor was the wrong note/pad. Once I set it to A01 (where I'd assigned the sample) all was well, the note continues to play at the end of the 4 bars and I surely have the tune of the year on my hands as a result.

lol I understand kinda...

Try setting the A01 Polyphony to Poly, Activate Note On, Record the Sample for the 4 Bars, And Adjust the Release in the Envelope settings so the Tail end of that Argon can Ring out pass the 4 bar point

That May or may not work....
