Attached SSD won't show in Standalone Mode

Hey everyone
I'm looking for suggestions on how to solve a problem with an attached SSD on my MPC Live II. I've searched the forums and youtube etc for a solution, but haven't found one yet.

The attached drive does not show up in the file browser when using MPC in Standalone Mode. It works as any normal removable drive in Windows 10 when MPC is set to Controller Mode. If I switch back to Standalone mode, the drive does not show up in browser... Only the MPC's Internal storage and SD Card is visible in Standalone browser.

The drive is formatted in exFat file system, which is supposedly the most stable format.
I tried restarting my MPC using system reboot (holding power button until it restarts), but it did not help.
I'm going to reformat and reconnect the drive, should I use any specific "file allocation size" when formatting?

Do you have any suggestions?

Ok, so after trying to reformat the drive into any of the MPC-compatible file formats, I had to give up. Nothing worked.
The drive in question is a WD Blue 500gb 3d NAND SSD... Which works fine in Windows etc.

Good news is, I found an older Samsung Evo 120gb lying around and installed it instead. It worked perfectly fine right away, so I guess it's just the WD Blue SSD being incompatible with the MPC... !

At least I'll be able to bring my files in MPC Standalone when I travel home for easter vacation

Do we have a forum thread regarding working/not working storage drives for MPC? Similar to the "Class compliant devices" thread. Couldn't find one when searching...

If the drive is connected to the pc, it will not show up in standalone mode.

Just to be clear, the SSD sata drive is installed inside the MPC unit (and i'm not talking about the 16gb internal mpc storage ).
It should show up in both standalone and controller mode if formatted correctly. I know it's correctly formatted, because I tried all the compatible formats, with every variable such as GBT/MBR, Logical/Primary drive etc...

The disk shows up only on my pc when I set the mpc to Controller Mode, because mpc acts as a SATA bridge, mounting the drives as removable devices (acts like a usb hub, kinda?).
It's strange that the disk can be mounted for PC through controller mode, but mpc cannot find it in standalone...
And I've read multiple posts on here that people use WD Blue drives just fine. Strange that this particular one does not work on my mpc, even though it works fine for Windows/PC.

I can't believe this... suddenly my SD card no longer shows up when in Controller mode...!
SSD works in both modes now without problems, just as the SD card did when I was having issues detecting the SSD earlier... It feels like the Mpc are playing tricks on me...! So annoying lol

I'm literally spending whole days trying to fix these things (yes, not joking).
As you know, Akai support is useless. I'm searching for reddit posts and posts from this forum to troubleshoot my issues... A lot of good information around, but it's hard to find specific solutions.


I've tried resetting system settings (menu->settings-> reset preferences), but that did not work.
What else can be done to try and force the MPC to detect the SD card slot?

I'm also thinking maybe it's a Windows 10 issue. I'm not exactly sure what device/driver to troubleshoot in Device manager, so if anyone knows which is related to the mpc SD card slot, that would help.

Any input appreciated!

I tried another SD card, didn't show up. Restarted windows (again) and now it works with both cards again, phew Seems it was a Windows error this time

Just to clarify, ExFAT has nothing to do with stability. It's just the format Akai recommends because both Windows and Mac can read it. That's all. Anyway, sounds like your issue is likely Windows related, but I'd also recommend trying different USB ports on your computer, as well as a different USB 3 cable. It's possible that it's the ports on your PC or a bad USB 3 cable as well.
