I just bought the Air Odyssey standalone and you can't even save your own damn presets. You are stuck with the 150 stock presets for all of time. What in the holy nonsense is this. Its freaking 2022. What's the point of even putting in a GUI when you can't save any tweaks. Its just a freaking preset player. I am beyond infuriated right now. Wasted 60 freaking dollars.

I was hoping I could make presets for the MPC. I got 1000s of patch settings for the original hardware that I wanted to get into the MPC as presets. I tried doing them in the MPC but it is beyond painful. I was going to pay someone to create a program with a simple text box gui that would then bulk write the preset files. I figured that I could at least save presets with the Air software and figured it would be a gamble if these would work in the MPC. But i never in a million years thought they wouldn't even allow you to save a preset....That's just garbage.

This what I was hoping in reverse. At the very least If I could make presets in the standalone and they didnt work for the MPC I could just use the settings from the software presets to batch reformat them to work with the standalone MPC.

If it's any comfort, you can at least import your existing custom MPC patches into this. The VST/AU patches are not baked into the plugin, they are stored in a separate folder and are in the same .xpl format.

Can't speak for Windows, but on a Mac, the patches for these VST/AU plugins are here

Library > Application Support > Akai > Synths > WayOutWare - MPC - Odyssey > Presets

I mentioned this in another topic, if you want to categorize your user plugins then you can't just stick them inside a 'User' folder inside the 'Presets' folder, instead you need to name your patches with a particular name structure, such as:

1000-Custom Patches-Bass-Fat Bass.xpl

Where the number at the front must always be unique (no duplicate patch numbers). The above patch name will create a new category called 'Custom Patches' and a sub category called 'Bass', with the 'Fat Bass' patch inside it. Here's another:

1001-Custom Patches-Leads-Dark Lead.xpl

You'll now have a second sub-folder 'Leads' inside the 'Custom Patches' folder.

You can put all your custom patches inside a folder (any name). The plugin actually completely ignores the folder, it only uses the file names for categorization, but the folder is useful for keeping things tidy.

You will probably need to relaunch the host app for the changes to appear.

BTW, getting your user patches off your standalone MPC is not simple as they are by default stored on the internal disk, i.e. not accessible for copy/paste. You'll have to load them up into a plugin instance one-by-one and re-save to a different disk. Or use one of the hacked firmwares with SSH access to the internal disk.

Basically preset management needs some serious work, across all the different environments. We need easy bulk import/export so users and developers can easily distribute custom presets for use both in MPC and in VST/AU versions.

I notice that inmusic have changed my account landing page with an offer to peruse their "brands".
I'd like to scream "brands" at full volume whilst I jam an icepick into their respective skulls.

Thanks. I never really planned on using Odyssey on the PC except for patch creation. I should have probably looked into this before I jumped. Or at least tried the demo. I can see the vst presets and could probably edit and make new ones with text editing but for my particular goal of bulk patch creation for standalone, it's a no go.

I'm using Studio One and I can save plug in states as presets though. Im wondering if i can decipher and extract data from these Studio One files. This plug was definitely not worth 60 dollars let alone the full price if you can't save without hacks. I would probably be even more upset if had actually intended to use it as a Daw synth. Buying Mellotron and Hype Synth pc version is now out of the question though. Lesson learned.

The key is finding a synth that no 1 wants but fills your specific needs.

Hype. None of the other desktop products say you can save on the product page. They all have demos so somebody can test. But I'm not sure if demo mode would have a save limitation. Was hoping that maybe my installation was stuck in demo mode and I did installs but no dice. For whatever silly reason air doesn't want you to make your own presets in the desktop versions, except for hype. I don't even know who they are targeting with these things. I don't think too many live performers are going to load up Odyssey on their laptop and use one of the stock 150 presets.

Cool I’m going to buy it before the coupon expires. I’ll try it in my intel Mac and M1 Pro Mac .
