I'm a bit confused about the Akai official extensions. I went online and I think this is the extent of them that I would need to install, but I'm confused since F9 drums seem already on my MPC One, is this something different, and am I missing anything (outside of non Akai extensions obviously)?

It's "expansions" not "extensions". You just listed a bunch of instruments, they are not expansions, they are instruments (or plugin instruments),.

By calling "expansions" "extensions", you are just adding another layer of question to your problem and make it harder to actually find an answer to your question on search engines.

Thanks for clarifying this. I'm also confused about the term "MPC Software", which is referenced in many places but leads to a circular loop whenever I search. Is this software that runs on my Mac that connects to my MPC One to install expansions? I cannot figure this out and searching on Akai just leads to page after page that goes to no actual download.

FWIW the items I listed above were actual downloaded "stand alone" expansions that show up when I click on my registered product link for the MPC One.

The 'MPC Software' is indeed the application you install on your computer. It can be used 'as is' (similarly to a DAW such as Ableton or Logic) or, if you connect your MPC in 'controller mode' via USB, can be entirely controlled from your MPC using the familiar touchscreen UI (but now with access to VST plugins and more RAM). The software inside your standalone MPC is referred to as the MPC Firmware.

Your original list (Hype, Solina etc) are the extra 'Synth Plugins' that you can install in your MPC - both in standalone and if you wish, in the MPC Software using the separate installers. These synth plugins are like specialised VST synth instruments for your MPC.

Items like F9 are 'sample expansions', basically collections of sampled instruments and drum kits, often adhering to a specific theme or musical genre. We have our own collection here:
