MUTE PAD Automation not working -Firmware 2.10.1-

Hello All,
Been searching for a few hours now to figure out how to get Pad Mute automation to work. If my memory serves me I've done this before on my MPC live, but I forget what version I last tried it on.
I have seen countless Youtubes and online write ups that state automating pad mutes is as easy as
1-Turning on Workflow write (red W) in Pad Mute section
2-Pressing play
3-Select pads to mute
4-Stop
5-Turning off Workflow write (green R)
6-Play back and enjoy the automated mutes

This does not work on my Live 2. I could have sworn this used to work. Is there a bug I'm not aware of? or did the workflow change in 2.10.1?
Any help would be appreciated.

Oh one other thing I should mention. When I reference the Grid view I can see that the PAD: Pad Mute automation steps have been recorded. However, it does not mute the pads on play back.

Preferences>Sequencer .... under playback, make sure 'play track mute and solo events' is ticked
