Am I missing a trick?
Surely that'll just give you around 5gb of dvd data space? As opposed to 128gb + for a usb drive.

There's a zillion reasons as to why. Burn discs through ssh, keep recovery images on a disc. place expansions on discs so they arent bloating up your project drives. Keep various versions of synth content on different discs rather than internal or sd or ssd. LOOT YOUR OLD SAMPLE DISCS directly. (doesnt work for audio discs *yet* but i'll get some disk ripping shit going through ssh.) Burn your projects to disc for safe keeping in read only storage so you dont corrupt them. discs last longer than cards, i got discs from the 90s still.
Ego te absolvo.
