Sata SSD capacity limit?

Have just installed a brand new Samsung SSD Pro 4TB drive into the internal connectors of my MPC X. The MPC X standalone is not recognising the internal drive at all. Nothing. Niente. Nada. Rien de rien. नाहीं।

Does anyone have the same problem? Is there a maximum capacity limit for the SATA drive?

I don’t have a computer to format the drive. Does it need formatting? Formatting drives sounds so 1980’s…

The MPC will read all common disk formats, so it's possible that the drive is not yet 'initialized', some drives are shipped like this, in which case the MPC will not recognise it at all. You'll need to hook it up to a computer to set up the disk - initialize and format to exFAT. I guess you'll have to find someone with a computer, it won't take more than 5 minutes to actually set up the disk.

So, do you mean just connect the mpc to a computer in order to format it? Will a computer find it, if I put the mpc in controller mode?

Or do you mean take the hard drive out of the MPC, install it on computer that has a SATA connector and format it directly from the computer?

As I said, I don’t have a computer, so I’m going to have to borrow one from someone; I’d rather not have to open up a computer and perform open heart surgery on someone else’s machine. I’m sure they wouldn’t like that either…

It's possible to format a drive through the MPC via USB, so it should hopefully be possible to initialize one as well. Connect the MPC to the computer via USB, turn on the MPC and put it in controller mode. Then go to the disk utility in the computer and see if it appears. If it does, it will be marked as uninitialised and I'd recommend you google for the step by step to perform the procedure correctly.

If it doesn't show, you could just pick up a USB hard drive caddy off Amazon for a few bucks. Pop the SSD into this and connect this to the computer.

I couldn’t get windows to find the Ssd immediately. I got a hard disk enclosure and it still wouldnt find it I. File explorer. But through the disk management app in windows it did recognise it and initialised it. I imagine I didn’t really need to get the enclosure after all, just to know windows a bit better in the first place. So now I have a huge disk with all the extension packs and my projects. Smooth.
