Hey

I bought a used mpc one and the cv outs don’t seem to work

When I got it only 4-8 seemed to work intermittently, but now none of them work at all, apart from 2-6 and when I say “working” it just seems to send out a continuous voltage, without it even being assigned to a cv or gate number, in fact it still sends it out, even when no cv track has been assigned.

I take it the cv out ports are broken, but does anyone have anything like this happen, or would you know what the problem could be?

Cheers

No clue, but modular is a dangerous territory...
Dunno if the CV outs are protected or if the protection is DC only.
Another risk are switching power supplies that may have rests of high frequency AC in the range of 40-80V. Just few micro ampere, but it can hit semiconductors hard.

(for a short period I used a small 24V switching PSU to power some vintage broadcast modules and these failed almost regularly. Next day they had (fortunately) recovered, an indicator for an over voltage with very low current. Otherwise the parts would have been fried)

The previous owner of your MPC may have simply made a bad connection or by chance slipped in some of that hidden voltage. It‘s high frequency and may travel obscure ways.
(vintage gear doesn‘t have any protection at all, so since then I keep switching PSUs away from such circuits)
Of course this is just a guess from my experience and may not be relevant at all.
Best of luck :smoker:

Cheers for the reply mate

Iv had modular from Years, so I know the dangers of connecting something that shouldn’t be connected lol.

The psu is a good shout

You know what, it came with two strips of Velcro stuck to the bottom of the machine, wonder if he used the wrong portable battery pack.

Everything else seems to be working ok, so iv ordered a cv.ocd as a midi to cv converter, least it means I can control my eurorack with the mpc

Thanks

Just quick update.

Unplugged mpc last night……now no sound is coming out of my main outs, tried with audio interface, then with speakers directly

Any one have any clue as to what’s going on…or I’m I screwed
