Hi everyone, I'm a new MPC Key user but an old midi user. I use MPC Key to sequence and control external synths and BARs. The MPC looks like a wonderful master control keyboard but.....
The program change function within each sequence is a great feature. It would be nice if we could apply a pre-delay. The external drum machine could start a new pattern on the first beat. We could play a chord on a synthesizer on the first bar without glitch too...
I have seen that many users have not found a solution except to write a program change in the list edit. I can't use this principle because I use the sequences in loop and when I want I go to the next sequence using a controller (MC6).
What do you think about it ?

Thanks, I went through the 28 pages and the document (which will disappear soon) but I didn't find anything like my problem.

It might be doable with an external control sequencer which you'd use for orchestrating the playback sequence. So you'd start playback from the external device and not the MPC. The external sequencer would send the pre-roll commands to wherever you want and finally send a start command to the MPC. Like 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ... START! You'll have to program this somehow. But I wouldn't count on Akai even listening to your idea, let alone implementing something.

Everything is fine when I start playing with the first sequence on the MPC. Indeed, when I load a project, the first sequence appears on the screen and immediately the program change tells the drum machine which pattern it should play.
The problem comes when switching to the next sequence without stopping playback.
For each new sequence that follows, the drum machine is one pattern behind because on the first beat, when it receives the program change, it already starts playing the previous pattern.
Then it plays the right pattern corresponding to the program change number of the current sequence. I know that elektron machines have the same problem. I don't quite understand the point of the Blokas Midihub in this case.

Ok, I get what you mean now. I'd like a pre-roll area for Force clips as well, it would help me to launch song parts which start with a "pickup bar" i.e. anacrusis. And it would solve issues with preparing external gear for the next part/scene/pattern as well. If a clip (think track of a sequence in MPC) has a pre-roll (negative start time) things from the pre-roll would start playing immediately when a go-to/start-playing command is issued, even though the currently playing clips (tracks) still need to play until the end of the clips (tracks) or until the end of the current bar or whatever. The pre-roll area would be shown as negative time or bar/beat numbers, like "-4, -3, -2, -1, 1, 2, 3, ..." And during pre-roll, things from both the current and the next clip/track would be playing simultaneously. With MIDI it's not a problem, MIDI events from the current and next clip/track just get interleaved. How much of the pre-roll gets played, depends on how early you issue the launch command. If there's only half a beat time left, then only events from -0.5 beats onward are played.

While waiting for that feature, is it possible to trigger the next sequence from an external MIDI controller? Then you could have that controller send the needed program change to the external drum machine, and you would always trigger sequence changes from the controller and not directly from the MPC.

One more thing. On the Force, something like this might also be doable by setting Clip Launch Mode to Legato on the clips of a track dedicated to program changes. That won't help with MPC though.
