I prefer to work in very dim areas (yes weird I know) but the lack of illumination on the MPC was getting to be a bit of a pain. I know my way around most of the buttons off pat now but sometimes I need to see exactly what I am after. So searching around I found a small LED light (marketed for book reading) which was discreet, capable of USB charging, has 3 different colour temps and a tilt/swivel head for getting the light just where you want. It came from the bay (UK).

It took a little thinking in terms of placement but I wanted it away from the screen and my hands so ended up with it on the right side near the top of the Q links. The light comes with a spring clip for sliding onto a book but I just unscrewed the mount, removed the clip, screwed the mount back together and stuck it to the side of the MPC with 3M tape.

Really happy with it, especially with the lowest colour temp option. For anyone else that also likes working with 'mood lighting' it might be an option for you :)

Since the pic below I added a strip of black insulating tape around the top edge to cut down on unwanted glare. It's fine now but it's really hard to photo without the pic looking like it has a big hotspot. It's much tamer in reality. Sorry can't work out how to embed the pics into the post:

Wow - nice idea! MPC One's biggest problem is its lack of light-up text for the buttons, so I totally get the need for lighting like this. Even in a dimly lit studio it can he hard to see the text around them. As for embedding photos in this forum, the URL link must link to an actual address with *.jpg or *.png (or *.gif) in the address..

Also, where did you get this? Is it plastic or metal?

Ah right OK, I just copied the links from my Google Drive which never had image extensions so I guess I couldn't have done it anyway!

Good spot on the knob! Yes it's metal, much easier for scrolling control. I was sure I got it off Ebay but I've scoured my purchase listings and cant find it despite looking back as far as the actual purchase of the MPC. I'll keep thinking!

Edit:
Right, it was Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08TT2S71Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you are playing in a dark club on the MPC One, how are you going to read the lettering on the case, the lettering doesn't light up, and the buttons aren't like the ones on the MPC LIVE where there is an LED illuminating through the text so you can read it.

I get the side light, but not sure I get why it is pointless in this specific situation.

Interesting. I guess it needs to be 'charged' with a light source to start with though, and I wonder how long it illuminates for. I would still look into it though if I did Facebook
