The MPC Key is a MPC with an adhoc keyboard, nothing more. Until AKAI allows one to split the pads and the keyboard into 2 separate channels, or something like that, you can't do that obvious thing any other workstation from any other manufacturer would easily do with a simple button press. It's just baffling.

The idea is good, but AKAI didn't even bother thinking about how workstations are used live... Same for the Fabric plugins vs keygroup programs, the plugins have very annoying limitations, wouldn't it have been smarter to use the keygroup engine directly, or at least an improved version of it that isn't a plugin so that people could load as many Fabric programs as they wish without having to load another project on stage?

How much thinking went into the design of that device? Not a lot...

I found from a Sound On Sound review that certain things can be routed via the Layers section, but I haven't time at the moment to see what the limitations are with this. I must say though, I had an MPC4000 about 15 years ago and the Key 61 can do things I could only dream about with the MPC4000. When they release a version with a proper 'm loving it.keyboard (the one on my Komplete Kontrol S88 mKII please), then you will have an absolute beast of a workstation. I'm loving it.
