why is my mpc l2 randomly recording controller movements?

It happened a couple of time;
I went to the mix page changing pad levels and panning.
For some reason the mpc record the controller movements and kept playing them without
specifically recording it. The track was not armed neither was i recording anything (no overdub, not armed, no recording button was pressed.

Is this a bug, whats going on?

Sounds like 'automation', if the icon in the top right of MAIN (or grid, list edit etc) is set to W it will 'write' automation to your current sequence. This can be used to record stings like FX changes, mixer changes etc and is separate to the MIDI event recording done through RECORD and OVERDUB.

Go to MENU > LIST EDIT. You can also add new automation data there (as well as using the 'W' icon I mentioned previously). The automation lane in grid edit allows you to draw in automation. Try a search in the manual for the keyword 'automation'.
