Problem playing samples from an sd card.

Hi! Recently got a Akai Mpc live gifted to me by someone who was no longer using it. I want to get into sampling and chopping up songs to put together, but I cannot get any of my samples to play on the machine. I have mp3 and wav files on my sd card and when I put it in the MPC Live they show up but will not play. When I hit it, it will flash for a split second then nothing will happen. Any help is appreciated .

Note: I have recently updated the machine, and I have formatted the sd card for the Live. I am downloading my samples onto the card through a MacBook.*
