No, you can't record into an audio track while in song mode.

You can still sample and resample though. But then you have no way of playing the whole sample along with the song without modifying all the sequences and slice the sample.

No, you can't do anything at all in Song mode other than edit/play/export the song. Huge design failure.

However, there is a way. Export your song to a new sequence, then you can add audio tracks to that. No need to resample.

Don't walk upon the oft frequented path of NOT using songmode. Songmode is your effervescent friend. When creating, use song mode to glue sequences together by laying out your sequences then use convert to sequence. It takes 5 secs to do. If you get in a habit of using songmode this way now, you won't get trapped in the same experience of others who are stopped in their tracks due to lack of a linear arranger. Consider "convert to sequence" your linear arranger and let your music flow like a cool spring in the forest of Gaia.

This is the way

Pay attention to this powerful message it holds the key to loop escape the loop maze. This is how I used the MPC2500 before I got the Force. You guys already have an arranger (kinda) & don't know it.

First allow me to thank you and all who took time out to comment.

I think what you pointed out is good idea, but is there a way to create arrangement markers for each section?

Let’s say one of my clients requests that I do additional production around their chorus which means that I need to loop the vocal performance alongside whatever I’m composing in the MPC, How can I achive that?

This is one of the most important aspects to grasp if you wanna enjoy the mpc workflow. sequences are really powerful in that they can be very short or very long, and this use of song mode as a part arrangement laboratory is key to unlocking the mpc power!
to clarify it a lil bit more i'll throw an example here
1)sequence 1 you create a simple drum beat of 2 bars.
2)copy sequence 1 to sequence 2 and modify that beat a little, adding a fill at the end or whatever you like.
3)go to song mode, insert seq 1 and have it loop 3 times, after it insert seq2 and have it loop 1 time.
4)convert to sequence 3, now you have a nice 8 bars sequence.
5) on track 2 you put a bass instrument (keygroup, plugin, an external midi synth, whatever) and you record a good 8 bars bassline over your drums.
6) copy seq3 to seq4
7)modify the bassline on seq4, change some notes, whatever. maybe add some micro variations to your drums too.
8 ) go to song mode , clear the previous song, insert seq3 as first step, have it loop 1 time, insert seq4 on the second step having it loop 1 time.
9)convert to seq 5: now you have a cool 16 bars with drums and bass, not loopy, interesting.
10) go to track 3 and insert , say, a rhodes (again, whatever: plugin, keygroup etc...) and record a 16 bars chord progression over it.
11) copy seq 5 to seq 6, erase drums track and bass track, keep just the chords, and record new drums and bass on top of it.
12)etc etc etc... rinse and repeat, insert "break" sequences, "bridge" or "solo" sequences, pauses etc... and you end up with a song. of course you can record audio on top of the final song once it's arranged, or on the long sequences you created previously (8 or 16 bars sequences for example).

well, lets say it is a 32 bars vocal performance, you can create a 32 bars sequence, insert the vocal as audio track and jam on it , record your instruments, experiment with it until its good, then you can insert this sequence wherever you want into the song mode, or if you already have a song converted to sequence, you can use the more advanced features like "insert bars" "copy events" and editing stuff like that to insert your new material into an already existing long sequence.

This Guy right here may have Single Handedly Disassembled the Mindframe of those who Need to SEE an Arranger Mode View! He actually verbalized the Method of Using Your Ears Versus Using your EYES to create a Linear Song!

This Generation Is Trained to Associate a Visual Interpretation of What their Ears are Hearing. If their Eyes Fail, Their Ears Will Fail As Well :Sigh:

I dig what you're saying, but not every rapper, singer, or guitarist starts their performance on the downbeat; some are a little ahead of the 1; you also have rappers who don't land their keywords on the snare, some swim unevenly through a beat, so I need to be able to count them in a bar or two before recording them.

I'd also like to be able to auto-locate song sections; for instance, if I'm composing a new refrain or bridge to a singer, I need to be able to flesh that part out on my keyboard on loop, so that it perfectly fits whatever key the vocalist is singing in, while also not clashing with whatever other instruments and vocals are in that section.

You have 6 pins on the locator page to recall sections. You can also loop your sequence from x bar instead of bar 1. As some said earlier, for delicate needs you’ll use the insert/delete bars from the main sequence edit page. You have 128 sequences to play with and you can use dozens of them if you choose as a scrap bin so that you may play around with compositions without worrying about messing up your song.
