OG MPC X Support

What's up guys.

I am considering picking up an OG X, but I was unsure how long it will be supported by Akai with firmware updates.

I know there isn't a definitive answer, but in your opinion, how much longer do you think it will be supported?

The day they stop releasing firmware updates for the original MPC X, they stop releasing firmware updates for ALL of the products, MPC Live, Live mk 2, One, Key 61, X SE, the whole lot. They're basically the same product, but with a different set of buttons, knobs and connectors.

But when will the updates will stop? Who knows. How could anyone possibly know.

Inmusic went all in on the current hardware and OS. It's basically different versions of the same os on the same internal hardware across their product line. The MPC's all use the same exact version although slightly tailored for each device. It will be a decade/s before they stop trying to collect on their heavy investment into the current ecosystem. Until a competitor comes out with something mind-blowingly advanced, but in the same space as MPCs, the MPCs we have now will be the MPCs we have for a loooong time.

Make sure you buy a protection plan if you are getting it from guitar center, there are some lemons on there.

Don't just buy a device for it's support. First look what the device (in current form) will do for you !
Does the workflow work for you, does it make it possible for you to achieve what you want ?

If so, buy it !
People are using Vintage machines that have not see an update in decades and they work fine.
As long as the X stays in working condition the current software will run for decades.

Actual support will stop at some point but i think it will continue to go on for some time, however is DO think it will be subscription based.
Right now they are not making an extra dime on people that bought a device and get an update even after 6 years.
They need to keep making money on those 'loyal' users.

Go out and buy an X man. You could easily save at least $1000.

Firmware updates probably not a problem medium-to-long term, typically the first thing to get dropped is hardware driver support for controller mode, so eventually your MPC won't work with the newer computers. If you only work in standalone mode then not a problem.

If they eventually make the latest firmware only compatible with newer models (e.g. due to CPU/memory limitations) then you can just carry on using your MPC with the last supported firmware.

I wonder if in the future you can buy the case and main board, and make a booty se.. we couldn't before because the buttons were different, but I think they are the same on this one.
There is a whole community of Chinese "workers" wanting me to find out so we can get to work. We can offer a mpc X SE at a good price.
