Is it possible to load up an already recorded song onto the mpc x for the purpose of adding synths, drums, samples or other instruments?

Yes, you can load it into an audio track, but better to use the original uncompressed version (the mpc will convert the mp3 to wav so there’s no benefit in using mp3). Either way it’s going to use up a lot of ram,

Whatever you load into MPC gets converted in 32 bit floating point = crazy amount of ram. MP3 of WAV , doesn't matter. Only sample time and stereo/mono matters. I'd say MPC is very good to record your parts to the backing track
