Five purchased plugins, all have deactivated three times in the last two weeks. So, it’s a simple enough fix (connect to wifi, reactivate, so far been flawless) but between purchase authorisation issues - and now repeated deactivations - this system (as everyone here now knows) has really screwed up, and I’m waiting for the inevitable day where I can’t connect to wifi (the curse of the modern era) or the reactivation doesn’t work. Not a good feeling

Is your mpc new or used?

If used, did prior owner de-register ALL paid plugins?
You get 3 plug-in licenses per paid plugin per registered machine serial #.

Hi lamp, my X was used but it was a thomann return so only used for max 30 days… and anyway I’ve had it since 2019, before all this plugin authorisation nonsense started.

AKAI have admitted (to me anyway via tech support) that there’s an issue with the whole system. I only hope that 1) they sort it out and 2) it doesn’t get worse!

The accident investigation board has identified the root cause of the accident. The activation problem was caused by plugin purchases, and the purchases were directly caused by the user. The accident was completely avoidable, unnecessary and foreseeable. The investigation board recommends that MPC users stop purchasing plugins.

‘Caveat Emptor’, the catch-all catchphrase of consumerism

The official line I've seen before was that it was an issue isolated to a time zone bug, but I think that's starting to wear a bit thin as it seems more wide reaching than this. Whatever it is, it seems to be tricky for them to pin it down.

What firmware version are you on?

A band mate of mine contacted InMusic about this last week and said a tech spilled the beans about units being intentionally programmed to phone home. My takeaway was that A) the timezone bug is likely more underplayed Akai BS (checks happen more frequently than 90 days), and B) there's probably a background process running the entire time you use your MPC offline, waiting for the 90 days or so to recheck with the server.

I'll try to grab receipts if wanted.

The most recent 2.12 or whatever. Actually now that I think about it it’s only since I updated that the phoning home has ramped up. I’ve reset preferences and all that.

Wouldnt surprise me at all, i found a couple ports that open up on the mpc that are initalized only when the mpc binary has been executed. i probed them with netcat a bit but not while online. One replies with a 404 message like its an http interface of sorts... i dont know what it is to be sure though i have to get pretty elaborate with my network routing to man in the middle it.

There’s no doubt now in my mind that the latest update, 2.12 or whatever it is, has really ramped up this problem. I held off updating for ages - the new update was just for compatibility with the newer machines I think? - so it didn’t offer anything I needed. Boy do I regret it now. These yokes are deactivating once a week.

On one of my mpc's they don't even work, atleast you can get them to run sometimes. Maybe it is because of previous accounts.. my mpc that has no problems ever had never had a previous owner.

No previous accounts, this was mentioned above. Anyway my main reason for posting again here was to identify whether others have had more problems with this on the newest firmware. In the meantime I think I’ll downgrade one step

you need to downgrade more than one step - they've changed algos around 2.11.x (don't remember which version exactly )
