Dont see update option

Hey, new MPC user. Trying not to toss the thing out of my window. It was very expensive.

I have it connected to my computer via USB but when I go to update the software I get to that little update screen on the laptop itself and it says go to the update mode. Nothing on my laptop pops up when I go to controller mode either. I don't have an update mode option in the preferences section. Pressing shift does nothing

If I go to devices in settings of my laptop I see the MPC SD card connected. But I can't click on it, it is just there.
The MPC Bible says the following but I can't drag the files anywhere

"Whichever method you choose, once the MPC disk appears in your computer, simpy drag (or copy/paste) the ‘Tutorial Files’ folder to your preferred location on your MPC disk (e.g. the 'root' location).

To load tutorial files, go to the BROWSER, select the Places tab on the left of the screen and tap on your MPC disk. Now use the top bar to navigate to the ‘Tutorial Files’ folder."

Im ordering a USB drive now, maybe that will be easier. But Im stuck here.

Thank you. it says software 2.12.1 and firmware 2.10.1.87(v0.44)

I havent been able to figure it out. im really frustrated.

Try online update using WiFi or Ethernet.

UPDATE: I figured it out. I was going to the preferences tab in controller mode for the update when I needed to go to it from the standalone. As for transfering the files, I will need an SD card.
