Hi! Does anybody know if instruments in the Fabric XL library (which have bigger sample size than regular Fabric) can also be loaded into MPC Key 61 for standalone use or only instruments of the regular Fabric can be loaded for standalaone use and Fabric XL is only to be used in MPC software?

Thanks man for the info! Just wonder about loading both Studio Strings and Fabric XL. I will buy AKAI MPC Key 61 which has 4GB of RAM. Do you know if I will be able to load the whole Studio Strings library (I want to play a whole orchestra sustain instrument so i guess I will have to load all 4 instruments? Bass, Cello, Viola, and Violin) and also 3 instruments from Fabric XL (one electric bass, one electric guitar and one pad patch). That is if I can I load just these 3 instruments from Fabric XL or have to load whole Fabric XL? Thanks!

i've never noticed any appreciable difference between the Fabric presets and Fabric XL's, fwiw. but happy to be proven wrong if someone knows a real advantage to using the XL versions

both versions of fabric are inferior to xpand 2; to my ear, so I hope we get Xpand 2 in the mythical MPC 3.0 next yea.

cos we basically have enuff synths on the MPC now; so we need a few options for romplers on the MPC platform.

I will buy Key 61 and since the whole Fabric XL is more than 3 GB in size, please let me know the following: if I need only 3 instruments from Fabric XL (electric bass, electric guitar and one pad instrument), can I load just these three or have to load the whole library?

currently, Fabric XL is only available for purchase as the whole plugin (XL, Fabric, Fabric Piano, and Fabric EP). so it is a full-featured suite of sounds but still all bundled together (also just generally they don't break out plugins by single presets no matter which one you are interested in)

Just load the instruments you need, it will only take up the memory needed for those specific instruments.

Been praying for Xpand!2 in standalone mode since 2018..... I highly doubt they will ever do it but "I can dream, can't I?" :smoker:

fun fact: all of those recent "sample based" plugins are running on modified Xpand engine and even the library files have the same ".big" format.

LOL @ disassembler. Did you ever mess with ps2dis for ps2 / psp? mips disassembler... was one of the nicest disassemblers I have ever used to date. It's simple but it was quick and it was a nice diassembler to work with.

never used anything other than IDA / Ghidra which are a bit bloated for what I use them for.
for me, ghidra is essentially a viewer that let me peek what's new and what's had been changed.
Trying to decompile and follow all the routines in MPC binary is a waste of time imho as there is so much unnecessary leftovers there that there is no such big shovel to dig through this s**t.
