Hi guys i'm totally new in the Akai world ( i come from Korg and Roland groove boxes).
I want to ask you a question, what is the best way to build a live set on the MPC ONE?.
I think the sequence mode is the best way but are 128 sequences enough?
Thanks guys

Maybe. More info would be necessary.

What type of music?

How many songs are in the set?

How many sequences or different parts do most of your songs use?

Will you only be using the MPC or will other gear be used? If so, what gear & how do you plan on using it with the MPC?

Will there be breaks in between songs or no?

Any more info like this makes it way easier for people/strangers that don't know you to help you.

At 120 bpm one bar of 4/4 is 2 seconds, and 32 bars is 64 seconds, so I minute. If you just played every 32 bar sequence once, that over 2 hours of music. Your sequence may be shorter, but you'd repeat them more.

I'm also working towards a live set, with the MPC as a hub, with most external synths routed through the MPC. Using beats and some internal plug ins with their levels set in the studio, so that there is a stable foundation to adjust hardware synths level mix in with them out.

No disrespect, but how does this info specifically help the OP? especially if they didn't answer the questions that I asked?

OK, but how could you help the OP if you don't know the answers to those type of questions?

Nothing you mentioned really IMO was useful to the OP question. How do you know if OP uses tempos of 120BPM, 4/4 time-sig & 32 bar sequences? - As if that's what the MPC is locked to. All those things can different pet beat or even within 1 beat. More info is needed.

It's OK to asks for more info before responding with random facts. Yes your math was right, but without more info on the OP specific needs how is that helpful for what the OP is trying to do if you don't even know what the OP is trying to do?

The One or any MPC may not even be the right device for whatever their trying to do, but we & the OP won't know that until we have more info.

If someone said they was new the MPC & someone gave them that answer:
"At 120 bpm one bar of 4/4 is 2 seconds, and 32 bars is 64 seconds, so I minute. If you just played every 32 bar sequence once, that over 2 hours of music. Your sequence may be shorter, but you'd repeat them more."... Seems like an Ai answer trying the best it can with very limited info.

OK, that's nice to know but it may be useless without the info that I was asking for, which is what the OP should've added in the first place.

Op asked if 128 sequences was enough. So I gave an idea of what sense of time 128 sequences could cover in a live set. Just a little demo to show that 128 sequences should be plenty for a live set.

Sorry, I must the update to the terms and conditions to the forum when you joined 'No poster should add their input until B-wise's questions have been responded to'

The way I've been trying to go about it is using a minimal number of sequences per song then on the MPC changing between Track Mute and Next Sequence pages for progressing through the tracks and adding variation. (There's even Tracks Mutes record/playback settings but I personally find them a bit too fiddly to turn on and off during a set so have been leaving off. Worth considering though.)

Downsides I've come across is that with multiple songs in one projects you'll probably going to want to route multiple programs through the same effects using Subgroups and maybe even Send/Returns. The problem with that is automation is not recorded to those channels, thus you can only ever have on the fly sound changing while your working a hardware controller (assuming this is something you do.) I've actually recently got an external sequencer to try and help bypass this issue, plus add routeable LFOs to my setup...

Other major limit I've come across is the 8 plugins maximum. Wanting varied sounds in different songs is quite restrictive with this, unless you sample to keygroup (losing quite a lot of sonic control.) But if you're mostly using sample instruments this shouldn't be an issue.

Your first post AND mine here didn’t help either.

That depends on what you mean by helpful. Like I said, in order for ME to "help" the OP I would need more info about the OP's process. So those kinds of questions that I asked will need to answered to properly "help" the OP.
How is that not helpful?
Telling me what I did isn't helpful w/o the reason why isn't helpful. Currently your 0-2 on this thread.
