I recently had an issue that I thought resetting my Preferences might resolve. I lost all my Midi mappings as a result, which I didn't expect as midi mapping is a separate menu from preferences.

I see this as a suggestion sometimes as a alternative to trouble shooting, which may be true in some cases, so relatively reliable advice. So depending on how much midi mapping you've done, it may be an easier rule out than actually trouble shooting

I lost 96 nidi mappings, so that took me a while to redo. I'm up to about 140 mappings now and plan on about 250 (if I don't hit an a internal limit), so I'll probably never do a Reset Preferences again. Unless there is a way of accessing the file and backing it up, which would be pretty cool.

Very strange. 'Reset preferences' should only recreate the MPC.settings file using default parameters, the MIDI mappings are stored in a separate location and should not be affected by the reset, I cannot see any logic in a pref reset wiping out the midi learn folder.

Just tested this and my midi learn folder remains intact, so it looks like you triggered a bug somehow, might be worth reporting this to Akai if you get the chance.

What do you mean by MIDI Mapping on the MPC?
I'm on the Force so when you said that I think of the Macros (which can be saved as Project templates & or Tracks) which is different than the MPC.

I have my Novation Launchpad mapped to 96 controllers on my OPX4, This week I mapped about 40 more to the Jura. It's really worthwhile doing, I think. I'm still only just scratched the surface with the OPx4, but it's made it far more appealing.

Thanks for testing, I did think it was odd. I wouldn't have riske it otherwise.

I'm a little apprehensive getting the hacked version, but reasons to do it keep coming up.

resetting preferences clears the mapping path in the "MPC.settings" file to its default state:
<VALUE name="MidiLearnEnabled" val="0"/>
<VALUE name="MidiLearnPreviousMapping" val=""/>
that is the "global" mapping that is applicable to every new project created.
given that you saved your project before, the actual mapping file (Midi Controller.mcn) remains untouched and it's usually stored along with other files in your [ProjectData] folder - you can copy this file between projects to retain custom mapping iirc

Thank for the info. I looked at a blank project last night and saw that the midi mapping was blank. And when I went back to my template, that it was held as part of my template. So I must have don something stupid after resetting my preferences, when I opened my template again. SO for the meantime I'm putting this down to user error than a bug.
