It seems that Akai has opened itself for 3rd party devs

Most of ppl here know that there is a 3rd party plugin in the works (Lo-Fly Dirt) but I just stumbled on an old article that talks about a new platform called QUBIQ (new back then - 2017) that will help build custom branded software / copy protection / online marketplace etc...

Some might say that it's nothing special but there is a new plugin content uploaded to inmusic authorization servers called "ring the alarm". Again some might say "nothing special, yet another akai plugin to milk the platform" but here me out:
Akai naming convention splits the plugins into several different categories, for example:
manufacturer name - MPC - plugin name - this is standalone version of plugin content
manufacturer name - VST - plugin name - this the VST version of plugin content
then we have OS expansions such as stems which are tegged with LIB marker.
This new plugin sits in a separate category called... QUBIQ
"Akai Professional - Qubiq - Ring The Alarm" - by the look of it, it's a very simple plugin as if it was just a test of a new platform but regardless, I think we're slowly heading towards some sort of online marketplace
What do you think ?

I'm still wondering whats the deal with that qubiq platform. It seems that this plugin won't authorize itself the same way as the others (checked it but I will dig deeper).

Just watched the video and IMHO this plug is simple AF and it's just a proof that akai will milk the f**ck out current MPCs until they're bone dry.

I am intrigued to see what new stuff could come from new devs for sure.

But this is a pretty lame plugin and anybody who needs this already has the ability to do it with the existing plugins. But let’s be real, how many people actually need this?

I love that they are dedicated to the platform and I’m excited to have Lofly and hopefully other 3rd party plugs on my mpc but they can do better than this one…

Would love to move into MPC plugin development, although I assume it's going to an invite only, walled-garden deal rather than allowing anyone to independently develop and release plugins for it.

I don’t use these sounds on my keyboards, K2500RS, SeqTrak, and Integra. It just gives me a new place not to use them. I can’t believe they are selling these. You can get them anywhere. It sounds like it came from the movie, “Forbidden Planet”.

It would be good news if it opens up new plugin opportunities.

Unlikely, but I guess you could make a Kontakt style plugin that would at least solve all the deficiencies of keygroup programs.

let's face it, note off won't get fixed until full rewrite - there's simply too much "years old" sh*t piled on top of those foundations and as long as people will buy stuff like that "alarm" plugin - they will have little to no incentive to develop faster

LOL yeah, make your own better sampler. But things like the mod wheel are the worst. I can't do a basic thing like mod wheel vibrato because of some idiot bug that doesn't get fixed, and Akai is busy making paid fart sound plugins. Not to mention missing basic features such as actual legato that doesn't re-trigger the sample. If you want to do a synth solo, use a paid plugin, no can use your own samples. But yes, "just" get into some closed NDA proprietary plugin dev program and roll your own plugin. Still can't fix the actual base software though.

I'm not mad about this plugin because it actually doesn't sound bad, and is cheap. The prices they want for some of the plugins that sound not very good is what turns me off. Yes these are easy to make on another synth, but it is nice to have on the fly for a cheap price. Am I going to buy it? Probably not. I haven't given Akai a Dollar of my money for years now. I still use my MpcX, but I don't use the plugins. I still have yet to buy one. If I had to buy one I'd buy the OP FM Synth, Flavor Pro, or this. Once again though, the price of most of the plugins are just out of wack, and I'm really not all that interested.
I know theres Flavor Pro, but I find it hard to believe they never gave us a S950 Plug-In or like a collection of digital version of there old racksamplers.
I know Korg doesn't make the best VST's but if they added stuff from another company like that, or at least stuff based off more real synths. I like the idea of the Mini Moog plugin, but I would rather them just try to straight up copy a bunch of DIgital Synths instead of trying to pull a impossible with a Mini Moog... Companies already have a hard time creating VSTSynth's that sound like VCO's. I would rather just get a bunch of DCO Modeled ones instead.
If I saw a collection of RackSamplerVst's modeled after, the UI looking like old akai samplers, and they actually sounded close to them, I'd be more stoked.

Ive already got Lo-Fly Dirt, fly-tape and tons of AU plugins for my battery powered mpc1000, my mpc500, and mpc2000xl I just run my mpcs through my iPad and into the SSL and done. I originally started buying iPads because the plugins are way cheaper then on computers, also some of the synth apps are way good and I couldn’t believe the price, granted the price for the iPad, but I did the math and just 3 of the plugins(AUs) that I bought the iPad for cost more then the iPad for the computer versions, so that was what eventually pushed me to get an iPad, I’m not buying the pros or anything like that, I stick to the entry model with the middle of the road storage.
