[noob alert] Diff track/program types play at once?

I humbly apologise for my noobness.

I'm attempting to make a tune, definitely trying to run before I can walk.
Is it possible to say have a sequence that's using a drum program with samples I've assigned to pads, and also add in to that notes played from one of the stand alone plugin instruments?

Yes, set up the plugin on a different track, set to 'PLUGIN' type. You can have up to 128 tracks all playing together. I see you have the MPC Bible, stick with it, multi-track sequencing is covered.

Thanks for the answer! I really appreciate you taking the time to reply positively, especially since it's covered in your book. I'm only up to chapter 8 - sampling 101, and I may skip ahead briefly.
