Ignoring MIDI messages

Hello!

Got my MPC One+ a fortnight ago, and since then my wife hasn't seen me, I've grown a beard and I've forgotten to eat and drink.....but aside from that, I'm loving exploring this thing...

Quick question - I have connected my synth (a Korg Nautilus if you're interested) to the MPC via MIDI, and I like being able to use a traditional keyboard to trigger sounds in the MPC, however, I'd like to globally switch MIDI off when I'm using the Nautilus to acompany the MPC rather than as a MIDI controller for the MPC.

The only way I can see to do this is by unplugging the MIDI in cable - surely there's an easier (software?) way that doesn't put constant strain on connectors by plugging / unplugging?

You don't do it globally, you do it per track. There are various ways to do this but the simplest is, in the Track screen, set the MIDI input for each track to <none>.

Add a dummy MIDI track and make it active.

You can set the tracks on the MPC to receive on a specific Midi Channel. You can then change to that Midi channel on your controller keyboard when you want to play stuff on your MPC.

How about the multichannel note-off bug, it causes a note-off on any channel to effectively send a note-off to ALL channels of that port, right?

That's right... but it's not a problem if you're just sending in one midi channel at a time from a controller keyboard... If there's other Midi channels being sent in from somewhere else simultaneously to the same port then that would be an issue.

I meant, MIDI input channel selection may not be enough to filter out input, if note-offs are broadcast on all channels. If another track/program has that same MIDI input port activated with suitable monitoring settings, even if it's on a different channel, it may get inadvertent note-offs. Test it to be sure.
