We're using the MPC as a live vocal processor, and we'd like to have the vocal tuner kick in only in specific parts of the song. Alas, the documentation on this is scant (it seems they spent more time on the graphic design, which is not saying much).

I gather that "Unworried, Default, Selective, Picky, and Blind" are successively higher degrees of correction. Is Unworried equivalent to Off?

Try it with a synth plugin as input. Set a very wide and slow pitch LFO that slides up and down. Insert an AIR Vocal Tuner in an insert effect slot, tweak the settings and see what they do.

To me it seems that the unworried/default/selective/picky/blind means WHEN or IF it corrects the pitch at all, not how much it corrects. And the effect is the opposite of what you gathered. "Unworried" will ALWAYS correct to the nearest scale note, and not "worry" if it mis-detected the pitch. If you set VOICE RANGE completely wrong, like "Very Low" for a very high-pitched instrument, "Unworried" detection will try to correct even if it gets the pitch wrong a lot. Or that's what it looks like to me.

There is no way to set a percentage how much it corrects. If it corrects, it corrects it all the way. But you can kind of get a similar effect by using a higher i.e. slower RETUNE TIME value. I think.

It's not the most versatile pitch corrector ever made, but you can get the tee pane effect.

All settings will affect audio differently, there is no "OFF".

And as you already know, the MPC doesn't allow automating ON/OFF effect switch. So an effect that doesn't have a Dry/Wet knob cannot be turned on/off via automation.

The Akai Force has MACROS so the work around to that limitation is easier to implement.

As a workaround you could try using two audio tracks monitoring the same live audio input, one with pitch correction and another without it, and then select between these two inputs with some sort of selector toggle or fader kludge that opens one and closes the other.
