New user - editing question

Hi everyone,

New owner of an X SE, really happy with it so far. Just wondering if anyone can help with a workflow issue.

I’d like to import some full length tracks and currently I can chop with the various modes, and can set start and end points etc. what I would like to do is set a start and end point to say 1 or 2 seconds, lock it in place so it loops, but then and crucially sweep that locked region through the track using the data wheel, I’m hoping to find more happy accidents this way than simply chopping to slices.

I really hope I’ve explained this well enough, hopefully you guys can help me out. To be fair I can currently achieve this various ways using Cubase, but really want this workflow on the standalone X

After converting the chopped sample to a non-destructive program, you can use the data wheel on pad 1 to change the SLICE parameter and move between regions. However, even if you change regions while playing, the sound won’t sweep and will continue looping the original region. (Playing the chopped pads in sequence might give you the result you're looking for.)

This does seem like a strange omission to workflow from Akai. I have spoke to someone else about this and they think this specific workflow was doable on the 4000.

Hi Yes you can but you’d have to add a note in the sequencer so the sample continuously retriggers so you can hear the results of the new loop window. i was pretty sure this is standard functionality -as a vaguely remember someone demonstrating it/or i done it myself- and it is standard in my other samplers, but it turns out this no longer is there, so it can't be done
