MPC3 Pad Performance Automation

Hi Everyone. While I am enjoying the new Beta 3.4 version, there is one thing I can't seem to figure out. I'm accustomed to recording my arrangements by using pad performance mode. The new arranger is great for certain applications, but feels to mechanical. I'd love to still have the option of creating a long sequence and Recording my mutes from beginning to end. Am I missing something in the new software? Why doesn't this work anymore? I'm using Live II if that makes any difference.
