Mac Mini M4 Pro for the brain of the MPC X

I just decided to get the Mac Mini with the following configuration:

Apple M4 Pro chip with 12‑core CPU, 16‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine
24GB unified memory
1TB SSD storage
Gigabit Ethernet
Three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI port, two USB‑C ports, headphone jack


I was told it would be overkill and should just get an M1.

I am going to run the desktop MPC software loading Arturia's V Collection X, KORG Collection 5, GForce Ultimate Bundle, Serato Sample, Kontakt 8 and mix it all into the lowest buffer possible using UAD native mastering on each sound.


Am I going to be to take advantage of the Apple M4 silicon, OSX and performance cores? Or will I be using Logic/Cubase because Akai sofware is not compatible?

The MPC desktop software can't compete with Logic / Cubase at all, imo

that's your opinion but I am looking for the facts.

This is factually correct imo

Feature for feature Logic is better than the MPC desktop software...

But if you want the MPC Workflow, or invested into the MPC software and don't have access to Logic, use what you've got. People have made plenty of great music on far less.

I am a Hackintosh user and my MPCX is about to get a treat.

Well Akai says it's unsupported and considering their track record when things ARE supported...

I mean it only took them 2 years after they were released to make the software 'M1' compatible so I'm sure it's just as great as usual (as I look at my lovely fully functional Cubase Pro 14 icon in the dock).

AKAI MPC2 Desktop software without any problems? That could take a while to happen.
If you want the perfect playground for your M4 , MPC Software isn't the solution - and I use a MPC-X too, but without a DAW. If I'd wanted an almost perfect DAW I'd go for Cubase

Is the Apple silicon or the OSX that is unsupported in MPC2? I can roll back the OSX when it gets here next week if that is the issue.

Are you just referring to running the MPC desktop software? I run it perfectly fine on an M4pro and a m4max

Thank you!. I just ordered the Korg KeyStage 49 to stand in place of Scaler 2 not being able to run as a MIDI effect VST in the desktop so I will post my workflow soon.

Bit of an odd statement.
While factually true.

The mpc standalone can't compete with it's own software.

And the software can be used in conjunction or inside your Daw of choice.

No comment on apple other than they will never get a penny from me.

The MPC 3 better come with MPE support because the Korg Keystage 49 will play the Wavestate into Ableton/Cubase but who wants to do that when traditionally MPCs recorded the aftertouch of the Triton, Fantom and Motif MIDI data.

Now we have MIDI 2.0 in the Keystage and it needs to unleash the new tech!

UPDATE:

In standalone mode using Ableton Link is a VIBE. Ableton repsonds to the song position while the X is in 3.0 Beta mode with all my sounds pumpin. The Mac Mini/Ableton thru the Keystage's 1/4" outs into the standalone MPCX mixer is smooth using a USB-C to MIDI cord

So the MPC in Desktop mode has either not connected to the software or when it did froze the screen on the hardware with a blue highlight over the Bars/Beats numbers. I ordered a USB 3.0 B Male Cable to USB-C cord from Amazon to stop plugging the MPCX factory USB to my J5 Create USB-C hub into the Mac Mini.

BTW: Apple are wack for taking away the ability to codesigned the software to install. basically macOS Sequoia FEELS like you have to get your stuff from the APP store like a iPad or something. Sooooo I purchased Scaler 2 on Fraday for $30!

I’m running MPC 2 on my 2024 M4Pro MBP, and I’m noticing most plugins aren’t showing up, even though they work fine in Pro Tools and Ableton. The ones that do show in MPC 2 are Soundtoys, Valhalla, Soothe, RC-20, and Seventh Heaven. But no Native Instruments, Serum, Waves, etc. Also, none of the AIR stuff (Fabric, Jura, Mellotron, Pianos, Hype, etc.) that came with my Key61 is showing up; only TubeSynth, StageEP, and StagePiano. I’m hoping the update drops soon, but even with just the basic features and some limitations, still lets me get creative, and I’m actually enjoying it right now.
