Hey all, had my MPC Key 61 for almost a week now and I am working through the user guide. I am a TOTAL rookie at any musical technology on this level. I am the following part of the guide (PDF page 51):

After loading samples for a drum kit into the sample pool,
use the Sample Assign tab to assign a kick drum sound to
a pad:
1. Tap Sample Assign at the bottom of the screen. This
lets you view the pads and project’s sample pool.
2. Press Pad 1 or tap Pad 1 on the screen to select it. The
pad will be lit green.
3. Swipe the Sample Pool list up or down or use the data
dial or –/+ buttons to move through it.
4. To load a sample to the selected pad (Pad 1, in this
case) tap it in the Sample Pool list, press the data dial,
or press the center cursor or Enter (MPC X). Now, you
can press Pad 1 to play the kick drum sample.

Step 4, above, will NOT work for me. Getting to step 4, no problem. I just cannot find any way to actually get the assignment done. I am hoping my "data dial" isn't broken. Thanks in advance for any replies. I swear I have tried everything and I have been at this for over an hour. Pulling my hair out at this point.

#1 The data dial is a big button/jog wheel. Pressing the data wheel = enter/do it.

#2 You can drag and drop samples from sample assign to pads also. Try it.

#3 When a folder is highlighted, you can hold SHIFT and you'll notice LOAD ALL will show up at the bottom of the screen. This will load all relevant files in that folder, you'll be asked to confirm load all if/when a project file is present in that folder.

I never downloaded the MPC 3 beta, so I'm unfamiliar with the pad assign process on there, but if you're still using MPC 2 like me, try this...
