MPC Live II Swing Behaving Bizarre / Not Working At All

Hi everyone! I'm new to music and the MPC so I will try to be as clear as possible with the problem I'm having, I don't quite understand where I'm going wrong here.

So I watched a video tutorial on how to add swing to your beats. In the video, it shows him putting down a simple beat with hi hats, snares, and kicks, and then for the next 5 min he shows you all the various ways to manipulate the swing of groups of notes, individual hits, and even setting the range across pads.

He is doing this all seamlessly and fluidly, when he selects the hi hat group, goes into the Time Correct menu, selects the range, and then sets the swing, the notes he selects move to the swing he specifies instantly and precisely.

So here is my issue. I have watched this video probably 15 times and I am doing everything the exact same way he is doing it. Copying the beat exactly at the same tempo, going through step-by-step and pushing the exact same buttons and making the same changes in the same way he does... but when I try to apply any swing settings I get the most bizarre results.

If I select "All' as a range from the menu, it sometimes moves all the notes, sometimes it moves just the hi hats and one kick but none of the snares, sometimes it doesn't do anything at all

If I select "Selection" and choose an individual note to swing, it does nothing. If I have a selected ranged of notes it either moves every OTHER note in the selection, or none at all.

If I choose a range in the very beginning of the beat making process, it will actually swing the notes and let me change things like in the video. But it is only for that one selection and if I try to make any swing adjustments to any other notes I lose all ability to adjust the swing of everything unless I start an entire new project from scratch.

I'm sorry this is so long winded, I just feel like I'm going a little crazy trying to figure this out and it seems nobody else on the internet has ever had this problem with an MPC before. I've tried resetting my MPC and checked to make sure I'm running the latest firmware which is 2.15.1

Any suggestions? Am I missing something obvious in the settings that would cause this odd behavior?

Can you post the video? & isn't there a setting to affect the the swing in real-time. Is that on?

What's your TC resolution? Are you sure you actually have notes recorded on divisions that are affected by the swing?

So here is the video I was following to figure out how to get the swing to work... He makes the process appear seamless and smooth. The notes do exactly what he wants exactly as he swings them no matter what changes he made before.

As for my results... you can see the notes literally aren't doing anything... and then when the swing does actually work it isn't even affecting the full range and only shifting half the notes??

I've tried TC at every resolution possible 1/8 -1/64 1/8 seems to be more functional. the others are just bleh

Is the setting you are referring to the checkbox in sequencer settings?? If so I've tried with that on and off with no success, maybe thats not the setting and there is another I am missing though?

the notes that were supposed to swing swang. not sure what youre looking for. the kicks and snares on the 1 and 3 arent gonna move.

Could you explain why that is? This is also how hihats behave as well, even if all notes are selected.

Did you watch the video tutorial I shared as well?
I guess I'm just confused about how it is all supposed to work because the video tutorial he has total freedom to swing any note any time, he can switch the TC resolution and still be able to modify swing.

After I have made one swing change I cannot further edit or modify the swing at all until doing an undo to before I swang.

I also cannot edit the swing like the guy in the video is doing at all. I'm pushing all the same buttons he is and getting entirely different results. The way he is doing it is exactly how I imagine the swing working, just cannot get it to work the way he is doin it.

I imagine when you press "Selection" it implies that it will swing whatever notes you have selected. Right?

If "All" is selected, it swings all the notes??

If you select "range", whatever range of pads should swing?

Normally when I do these things nothing at all happens.

This is what I noticed in the vid also.

Every note isn't supposed to "move" around when swing is applied.

How it works
MPC swing delays the second 16th note within each 8th note. The swing amount is described as a ratio of the time between the first and second 16th notes. For example, 50% is no swing, while 66% is a perfect triplet swing.

Oh my goodness, thank you for saying that. That was the click moment for me that I was missing!

I went back and watched the tutorial again and noticed exactly what you are referring to... I thought when he was applying swing it was happening to every note but it was doing exactly what you said.
