Stereo > mono

Hello,

I’m trying to make drum loop mono, and I’ve tried all three option (L, R sum) but nothing seem to happen?

What’s the catch?

Sorry for the rant, but this has been nothing but frustration with this stupid retro box.

Works perfectly fine for me. It creates the mono file but the original stereo file remains selected, you have to manually select the mono after processing. Use the data wheel to scroll through the sample list until you find it (default name is the original file name with a '1' on the end.)

Did you check for the new samples (original_name1, original_name2, etc.) after running the mono conversion process?
The original file is not modified during the conversion.

The thing is, there no way do undo it, so I thought nothing happened.

Yes, the new file uses the name you can enter on the 'stereo to mono screen (auto generated, but can be changed). Processing is a bit inconsistent with regard to whether or not a new file is produced, I think timestretch & pitchshift should produce new files as well, or at least it should be a checkbox option on the processing screen e.g. 'make new file?'

Gain Boost/Cut doesn't make a new file, but I wish it would, so it's best to make a copy first.

I would love to have the JJOS way of handling stereo samples via the drum program Sound parameter that let would cycle thru Stereo, L-mono, R-mono & L+R-mono all in real time without having to make a bunch of copies of the same samples.

Make sure you chop up your sample first because at on the new units the chops carry over when you convert the Stereo field, but if you make any chop edits to them afterwards you'll have to chop all of them keep them the same. It may be faster to just convert it again from the edited sample.

On 1k/2500 JJOS, I would chop a sample once & make a program, then make copies of that program each with a different Sound setting & some with the same Sound setting but with different filter & other parameter settings, then see how many patterns I could come up. This was really cool way to make different parts that all worked together since it basically the same sample(s), but a major pain to keep organized on the MPC1k/2500 since I'd end up with a lot of sequences, tracks & programs. I'd have to name tracks based on the program I made it just in case the prg got changed by mistake or when I see what other ones sounded good & but would forget to change it back.

Then the other pain was always having to update any edits you make on any track on other seqs. Doing this for beats with 20 or seqs many tracks becomes to much of a bore chore. The Force is way better & faster with this.

Looks like you figured it out but just for future people reading this thread the the Flavor plugin has a mono option. I use this a lot especially on drum buss
