Files, Plugins and Multiple MPCs

Hello fellow MPC users.

First timer poster, but total lurker here. MPC Key 61 and soon-to-be Live 2 user.

This might be a lot, but the file structure of the MPC is slightly confusing me.

1. I have factory packs and plugins installed on the internal drive of my Keys. I have samples, songs and programs stored on an external SSD drive. If I were to download the same plugins etc on the Live 2 and plug in the drive to the Live, I should be able to mirror my set up and performance on the Keys?
2. I have learned - after the fact - that I should really install everything on an external drive to avoid headaches. Well shoot - see number 1.
3. How much of a PITA is it to uninstall everything from my Keys internal drive and redownload to my external drive? Will that screw up all of my existing songs or will the MPC detect the new location of things?

I think I may have painted myself into a corner...

I did as you suggested a few months ago on my new MPC and all is working for any new plugin I install. However when initially booting up a new machine on arrival the initial plugins and expansions are preinstalled on the system drive. I guess these can't be transferred across to the second drives Synth folder like all future plugins are installed?

Thanks Lampdog. Super helpful. Found that synths folder and installed what I could on the external drive while deleting from the Keys - works like a charm.

RPK - you took the words right out of my mouth. I was wondering where things like OPX4, Solina, Fabric XL were installed.

Now I'm super confused if I can even install them on the Live 2 - I assumed I could kinda mirror the systems...but now I'm not so sure. Obviously the licenses for Fabric XL etc were included with my Keys and I thought that gave me license to install that on the Live 2. But I am a bit lost right now.

I just thought I'd post an update just in case anyone else asks this question.

All of my Key 61 plugins, etc, magically transferred over to the Live 2. Opening up identical projects using a USB SSD is flawless.

The only "problem" - the Key 61 has more memory, meaning that projects created on the 61 might max out the Live 2. Not a problem with some creative workaround sampling. The Studio Strings plugin is pretty intense for the Live II!

That's cool it worked for you. The Studio Piano is also a greedy plugin, but that's what resampling is for. It's just that when you're still designing the sound but also want more plugin tracks, you may not want to commit to settings at that point because you're still tweaking, That's when the extra RAM is important. I wish we could have at least up 4 plugs get disk-streamed - if that's even possible.
