I had this working before, so I know it is possible, but now for some reason it does not.

My setup. Mpc live 2 running mpc 3.5
Dreadbox artemis with dual jack back to input 1/2 on the mpc.
Midi to the artemis from mpc tried both midi cable and usb. Got both to work, but only under certain circumstances.

If I am in the audio channel which takes input from 1/2 pressing the pads create no sound through the artemis. But recorded patterns on the grid do work if both midi and audio channels are set to monitor:merge.

It seems that the mpc pads only send midi signals when I am in the midi channel. Anyone know how to fix this, or where I could look for answers?

When an audio track is the current track, pad input seems to be disabled. However, if you arm both a MIDI track and an audio track in Menu > Track View, and set the MIDI track as the current track, you can record pad performance into the audio track. Alternatively, you can also record external synths using the sampler or looper instead of an audio track.

Hi. Pardon the late reply. Was on a mini vacation.

Thank you so much for the answer. Arming both tracks more or less does what I want. I still think it´s a bit dumb that the midi signals are not sent from the mpc when you are on the audio track, but there could be reasons for that I guess.

You just saved me a couple of hours of cursing and swearing:)

Best regards
