I remember a LONG time ago, I had my then orange 2kxlse2, a friends white 2kxl and and another friends blue all together.

My orange was maxed out in ram, 8 out and eb16.
Blue was also maxed.
White was not.
I had made sure to turn off all efx.

Orange se2 sounded exactly like the white.
Blue didn’t sound as nice as the orange and the white. We didn’t open them to check hardware in detail but kinda thought all 3 had the same internals. We just couldn’t explain it. The sound difference wasn’t drastic, but, it was there. We loaded the same aps/all in all 3 machines.

When Numark (inMusic) bought the old Akai, the sale included a bunch of grey MPC2000XL (and MPC4000) units. They sprayed the casings blue and on the XL added a CF card reader. That's the difference (as far as I'm aware), no changes that would impact sonics (unless blue paint sounds warmer).

I remember asking myself why they sound slightly different if I always thought the insides were the same. It was a REALLY small difference I heard, nothing to be alarmed about or worry over imo.
