Akai MPC Live III DIN Midi Hanging note/note-off lost bug

On my MPC Live III, with 3.6 firmware, using DIN midi input with keyboard that transmits real note-off messages, they are often lost resulting in hanging notes.

Looking in the midi inspector on the MPC, can see that multiple note-ons can be seen without a note-off in between. This results in hanging notes.

Akai Keyboard (e.g/ MPC key37) seem to send velocity=0 instead of a real note-off. This seems more reliably received on the MPC live 3.

The issue does not appear to happen with version 3.6 running on the MPC Key 37 DIN midi input

The issue does not appear to happen when the keyboard is connected directly as a USB midi device, only when using the DIN input and where keyboard transmits real note off message (not velocity=0 message)

That’s one of the reasons I believe that the long standing midi note off bug was created, they couldn’t fix it so they bodged it with hidden note offs to all channels , what I mean by hidden there are some non public midi ports.

Tried a third keyboard connected via midi din in on the MPC live 3 - same issue - works if i connect it via externa USB to MIDI converter to the MPC, but if going directly to MPC, then get hanging notes:

thanks natbuk. I tried with 4 different midi controllers via Midi DIN. all work fine. I get the same behavior as in your vid with a controller connected via Bluetooth.
but if I connect the same controller via Midi DIN, it works fine.
Could your Midi cable be an issue?

Thanks for the suggestion - I have tried various midi cables too, and the one that works with Key37 also shows the issue with the other 3 keyboards - and the same midi cable (as shown in vid) is used on the external USB midi interface connected to the Live III, and all works OK with the external midi, so definitely something odd when my LIve 3 is using DIN MIDI - I guess there must be something different about the way the key 37 sends note offs? Or the midi serial clock recovery is screwy but Key37 'better'? strange!

Which controller

Are you powering the Midi keyboard from the MPC live usb sockets and then sending midi info back into it via the MIDI din socket of your controller?

Use one or the other,having both connected will cause a midi loop and notes to hang

Thanks for the suggestion, but at least for the SY99 and the Fantom, these are mains-powered units. I also tried both USB and external power for he Keystation 49, but same behaviour.

Though one can have both simultaneously, as long as MIDI through is disabled.

My Keystep 37 has both USB and DIN MIDI connections to the MPC, so it can always send notes through USB, while I can switch clock synchronization from the MPC on or off, because the Keystep 37 goes into arp/seq mode as soon as it receives clock.

Having the same problem with a Fantom 08 and Roland FA06 and System 1 when connecting via midi cable only. USB cable works fine.
If I connect a midi cable from my Korg PA4x and / or Roland VR730, they work perfectly well.
Interesting to note that the FA06 worked perfectly well using a midi cable with my MPC one running version 2 before I sold it.
Therefore, surely this must be a MPC3 software bug.
I have a ticket with AKAI and they have asked several questions, but as yet, no resolution
